  • With the used games debate, you guys aren’t thinking about the future of gaming and how it is changing. Your you totally thinking about gaming with a console focus. Sure with the consoles, used games are a thing, but look at the PC side, 99% of games on PC are sold digitally, at that IS the future. Having a disk and selling it will be completely gone in 10 years, it’s a given. I have a friend at work and we have this debate where he whines about not being about to sell his used games. I tell him, “look man, within 2 years of buying my PC, I have managed to get 150 games, all digital, half of which I only paid 10$ or less. With the disks, even used at gameshit still sell used games for 30 bucks, and I can get the same title on steam or GOG for 10$. Point is, sure you may be losing the ability to sell your game but the profit margin is so narrow, that it becomes almost pointless anyway, In the end, with all my sales on Steam and GOG, I have tripled the amount of games I have bought, because it is just WAY cheaper to buy on steam and GOG then to buy the console version. (which looks like crap anyway.) Thank god these new consoles are coming out, cause now we on the PC will get better looking games, instead of all these shitty looking console ports.

  • Wow i cant believe i actually heard someone talk about sleep pralysis. Everytime i tell someone about it they think im insaine because they have never heard about it. It is one of the scariest experiences. Not only is it the orgin of the sucubus and the term nightmare but some believe that is what people that experience alien abductions go through. I have deffinetly had out of body experiences when going through sleep paralysis but i dont believe in ghost or aliens so i think its all what you believe in is what you experience when it happens.

  • I loved Mass Effect 1, played through it twice and you CAN skip it. I loved the epic story elements but all the inventory and exploratory stuff is painful. Mass Effect 2 is the best of the series, played through on every difficulty and every class.

Also I loved Steve’s sleep paralysis stories around the 40 min mark, very creepy.

  • Secret of Evermore is my all time favorite RPG for the SNES. You play as a young boy with a love of B movies and his dog. While visiting a creepy old mansion you get sucked into a parallel reality where that mimics different points in Earth’s past and future.* You can level up your individual weapons, and spells. And you can switch between playing the dog or the boy. The only flaws I had with it was that you couldn’t have a friend play the dog. Soooo good.

Steven, you are a man of taste. Best wishes.

*Also, that would have made a great Saturday Morning Kids Show back in the 90s.

  • I…personally think you CAN skip Mass Effect 1. Sure, the plot is important, but the gameplay is really inferior to the 2nd one. Actually, IMO, you really only need to play ME2.

  • god this cast was such an epic win :D Steve’s voice is very laid back! tons of great discussions here! Also do NOT SKIP MASS EFFECT 1 ! Mass Effect 1 is the soul of the series and is far more rich in content than the other mass effect games!

for those who want to get into the game discussion, it starts around the 46 min mark.

  • I literally LOLed walking down the street when he said “And there was a woman’s head on my stomach.” Just the idea of it was so funny even though it was supposed to be scary too, and he told the story perfectly.

  • I don’t have a twitter, so I’ll just leave some of these band things here. Some of these might be a stretch, but this is so far up my Alleyway that you better prep your gameboy.

    Battles-toads
    The Arcade Fire Emblem
    Mo-Sim City Soundtrack
    Animal Collective Crossing
    Remy Zero Wing
    Lierosmith
    Rob Zombies ate my neighbors
    Hooray for Earthbound
    The Walking Deadmau5
    American McGee’s Alice in Chains
Warcraft II: Tides of The Darkness
    Double Dragonforce
    Pac Manic Street Preachers
    LCD Soundsystem Shock

I’ll stop now before this consumes my life.

  • Ali Baker was good, but she showed some inexperience in the way she would sometimes interrupt the flow of conversation. That is the sort of thing that improves with practice, but Emily is already strong at drawing out the guests’ personalities.

  • So, I hadn’t listened to the Indoor Kids since the first or second episode, but a few weeks ago I casually downloaded the newest episode and as soon as I had listened to it, I found myself almost compulsively downloading and listening to every podcast I had missed in the past few years. Ali Baker is great, but Email (Emily & Kumail) play off each other so brilliantly. I think the whole “being married” thing might have a little bit to do with it, but that’s just wild speculation.

Anyway, you guys are hilarious and you kind of make me believe in love again. Thanks for putting up with the often critical, nitpicky masses of the internet in order to continue sharing your awesomeness with us. You guys are the best. Team Email forever.

  • Darren, you could have said “worst” instead of “stupidest” advice — the tone of your comment came off as pretty hostile, and Emily’s response was laced with gentle sarcasm.

And speaking of Emily, have you noticed she is more likely to post a response in the comments section if someone is being offensive or complaining? [half-seriously --] Emily, your feedback is rewarding bad behaviour!

But seriously, this was a great podcast, and you guys didn’t even talk about games until 45 minutes in! Steven was a great guest and there was a lot I could relate to, not just as a gamer but also as an Asian and an acting nerd! I would love for you guys to regularly go long whenever you feel like it, instead of feeling the podcast needs to be less than an hour.

  • @Joshua That is one tough question, my friend. My instinct says BioShock. Waiting to get it ourselves, but the reviews look fantastic and it’s the number one game I’ve been waiting for since E3 2011. Honestly though, none are bad choices.

  • Great episode!

I will say this- if you create a show that is aired in a weekly format, you need to consider how its paced when its released.

Walking Dead is often horrible slow when you watch it as it airs.

  • Don’t skip Mass Effect 1. It is worth your time. I enjoyed the guest quite a bit. I found this too be a very enjoyable podcast. I’d love to see you guys in Seattle. Burning love is excellent. I would love to know which game I should get next: Tomb Raider, DMC or Bioshock Infinite. Please tell me guys…Well enjoy your controllers.

  • @PodcastGuy Never nervous. I probably drank too much caffeine on top of an onslaught of allergy medications.

@Marty Sometimes living in ignorance is wonderful, but try it. Ain’t shit going on on those servers that affect your own singular play.

@AnyoneWhoCares I texted Emily “Mega Man Man” from a red light on the way home. Don’t text and drive. I’m not a role model.

  • love the pod cast guys but the sim city stuff is killing me. its not always online for piracy although that’s a plus. a large amount of the simulation data is crunched on the server side. you cant play the game offline because a large portion of the game is not calculated on your pc. if you had all the simulation running of your machine the game would only run on the more high end rigs

  • Great podcast. Why does Emily always rag on models or actressing and always assumes they are just for looks or stupid or they have weak ankles. If anything their ankles are even stronger than mine or yours because they wear crazy heels. ALL THE TIME… Yet she doesn’t want nerds or gamers or girl gamers genralized or stereotyped. I wish she would stop. She always makes it a point to let peple know she’s majored on pysch but she can’t see the contradictions she’s making judging other females.

  • Steve Yeun – I wish you wouldn’t have taken the whole Season 1 wardrobe thing to heart. You didn’t look like Short Round, you looked exactly like Glenn from the comics. Honestly, my first thought when Glenn was introduced on the show was, “Man, casting nailed it.”. They couldn’t have picked a better Glenn.

  • I’m passable at best Emily, but seriously ME1 is not to be skipped. You lose too much of the Mass Effect experience if you skip it and the stupid little thing they added for PS3 players with ME2 cannot replace the chase of Saren who is the best villain in Mass Effect by a WIDE margin.

  • Skipping Mass Effect 1 is the stupidest advice you can give someone you want to play Mass Effect. If they can’t handle ME1 they should find another game to play. I’m very disappointed in Kumail

  • Burnside’s never nervous- he had just saved a kitten from a murderous tiger and was a little shaken up about having to take a tiger’s life with his bare hands. But he had to save that kitten.

  • Another sweet show–my only complaint is BURNSIDE…you sounded slightly nervous at least in the beginning of your segment. You shouldn’t be nervous at all, man! You’re cool, bright and fun and a great additional host–thanks for bringin us extra gamey stuff :)

  • OMG! I don’t know how the lovely Steve has time to do all these interviews! He’s always interesting and funny and I just love it!

There should be a ghost story disclaimer! *not really* But I listen to podcasts before I fall asleep so all it takes is one spooky moment to have me up an extra hour! O.O
