  • First off, I love you guys.

Second, I have been rolling a blue, bald gunzerker, and I always carry different weapons so I dont use all my ammo. Usually shotgun/SMG/sniper rifle/AR, but it can change depending on what i’m fighting.

  • I’m playing an Assassin in both the campaign and co-op and their names are (respectively) ERMERGAHERTZ and Assassin’s Crud.

I like any sniper rifle for when I can climb up on things and any revolver with 70+ damage.

  • Is the game really that much worse if you play solo? I don’t have any friends who play games and I hate playing with strangers. Maybe I’ll give it a pass until I can get it used for 30-40 bucks.

  • Kyle I’ve only played by myself and I’m loving it. Playing with others might be fun, but you sure don’t need them. Personally I don’t see how playing with others really makes any difference? The game is just super firetrucking fun any way you play it.

Also Emily and Kumail mentioned how they renamed their characters and I just don’t get that. They have names! Just like in the 1st game the characters have names, so why change them? This isn’t a Bethesda type game where you’re creating a character from the ground up, so what is the draw to making up names? They are fully realized characters with preexisting backstories. Honestly I don’t get it.

  • I’ve been playing as Maya, the Siren. She seems okay to me, nothing about her screams awesomeness yet but I’m not very far into her tree. The Phaselocking skill came in handy against Flynt, but overall I’m pretty “meh” about her for now. I’m looking forward to trying Salvador though.

About renaming characters, of course it won’t change anything about that character or their story, but I think it just adds to the experience so it’s YOUR character.

  • I have a primary campaign with my best friend Charlie. I play as Maya and kept her name. I primary use SMGS, and Shotguns, but I prefer whatever weapon does element damage. She is wearing the sickle uniform with an eye patch.

I have two other campaigns, one with one of my brothers, Phil, whom I using the Gunzerka. He has dreadlocks and is blue. His name is NIgel. He prefers shotguns and assault rifles. Not really sure if I like him, but this is my secondary campaign.

The other campaign, which I suppose is tertiary is with my other brother, Jacob. His work schedule is way different than mine, so I drop in and out of that campaign with my Soldier class whom is named Finnegan. He is wearing mostly green with with a lancer helmet. He is a solid character, but really boring. (In fact he is very stupid in his backstory, which I am not a fan of.)

I forgot how much i enjoyed this game, and the humor. The humor is so good. Can I work at Gearbox?

Cause you guys are are in charge, right?

Thanks again for doing this awesome show.

oh quick question if I browse through Amazon on one of your older shows do you guys still get a % of the profit?

  • Playstation recently added Borderlands to their Instant Game Collection. I downloaded it, but have yet to play it. After hearing you guys talk about it, I’m loading it up tonight.

The first time I heard “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” was on a local radio station. I immediately pictured John Marston from Red Dead Redemption robbing a train.

I thought “Short Change Hero” worked way better in the Arkham City trailer.

  • I was really surprised that Secret of Mana didn’t make the list of coop games. The only explanation I can think of is that it completely slipped their minds. THREE-PLAYER COOP!

  • @OnmyojiOmn Yes! I played through Secret of Mana so many times with my brother and sister and it was a blast to play co-op. Another game that I was surprised hadn’t made the list was Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

  • Don’t worry Emily, I don’t hold it against you or anything(lol) it just seems strange to me. I’m playing as Maya and have her up to level 30 and I’ve learned about her past from before the game and why she’s on Pandora, so renaming her just seems unnecessary. I wish they had taken that out of the game so that people would address me as Maya instead of Vault Hunter.

  • Im playing as Axton, and have him nicknamed as “John Hero”. That’s what Kumail called him in the episode, but I actually named him that before hearing this ep… I couldn’t think of where I heard the name, maybe he said it on a previous episode. Either way, it’s the perfect name for the generic “handsome fighter guy”.

As far as guns, I have a rifle that does exploding damage. Not far after midge mong, you’ll start running into guys holding huge metal shields. You’re supposed to get around behind them, but an explosive gun will hurt them from the front – way easier to take them down.

    The more you know!

  • Borderlands 2 doesn’t play well with my cable modem/router combo thingie. :(

I can play with other people for about thirty seconds after the game has launched, but then Steam will start flaking out, and even my browser will slow to a crawl trying to load up Google. As soon as I quit, my Internet access will go back to normal, so I’m sure it’s something it’s doing.

  • Non-complaining stuff:

    1) The last-minute art style change for Borderlands 1 is a good example of developers noticing that ludonarrative dissonance deal, and making sure the atmosphere and tone matched the crazy loot hunting and face shooting gameplay.

    2) The Trine games didn’t get mentioned, but they’re amazing for co-op.

    3) Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 are great for all the little touches. Your character will warn out for you if you’re reloading and need some covering fire, or if you’ve come accross a witch. Characters will thank each other for stuff automatically, and have a ton of variation in their lines, so it doesn’t feel like the same stale quips and conversations each and every time you play a level.

All that stuff just puts subtle pressure on players to be friendly and helpful to each other, on top of the gameplay stuff, like needing to be saved from infected by the Charger or Jockey or Hunter.

  • Jordan started on the topic of ridiculous names, and I’d just like to throw one in there that I saw on a sign: Engelbert Humperdinck. That’s true, by the way.

Also, one (kinda) co-op game that I enjoy: The first Modern Warfare (at least on PC). To start off, playing with strangers is fun since there’s not that many jerks insulting you, probably due to the fact that they’ve all moved on to MW3. Second, it has a few semi-co-op modes: Team Deathmatch, Sabotage, Search and Destroy, etc.

Not that it should be on the list, but it’s pretty good.

  • Viva Da Nang!
Da Nang me, Da Nang me… Why don’t they get a rope and hang me!

That quote is on the soundtrack for Good Morning, Vietnam… which I inexplicably own.

    So you arent alone, Kumail

  • Hey, first off love the show. Second, my first playthrough was a Commando, aka Axton. My second is the Siren, aka Maya. But, I dont really have a favorite brand. Maybe, If I had to choose, it would be Tediore. I agree though, this is amazing game.
