The Alton Browncast #39: Katie Allen

Ever wonder whose job it is to build a kitchen in the middle of a beach, design the sabotages on Cutthroat Kitchen, or wash the dishes when the cameras stop rolling? For many of Food Network’s shows, it is Katie Allen, culinary producer. She talks with Alton about the magic of Kitchen Stadium and how a bell pepper almost kept her from her dream job at Food Network.

  • I loved his one . To find out that there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes on these shows. And I thought Mr Brown knew everything. Don’t worry you are still my favorite I have seen every episode of Good Eats and Cutthroat Kitchen and all I can say you all are geniuses. The amount of work and effort that goes into each and every episode is amazing. May Cutthroat kitchen have many many years of new sabotaged and backstabbing left in it. I do have a couple of suggestions though for cutthroat kitchen. How about that little oven that cooks with a light bulb (easy bake oven)…. And make someone use medieval cooking tools rocks and stone Items…. Or make someone catch their own bass or any fish out of a large tank they have to climb into at the start of the 30 min. Or make them use a type of insect in their food their choice but they have to tell the judge. I have a ton of ideas. Good luck Mr Brown I wish you many years of culinary and podcast success….

  • Loved this Browncast. I would so love to see a series of “behind the scenes” specials.

As a foodie and a production manager, it’s wonderful to learn that my dream job has a name: Culinary Producer!
