  • I actually enjoyed this podcast. Since I’m batting for the other team, while I may not have ever watched her work, or would choose too, I’ve dated enough gay porn/escort/dancer “talent” to learn who they are as people, why they choose to do what they do, and what makes them tick.

It’s interesting to hear about the side of the business from the female perspective, as well as what she plans to do as she moves beyond it.

Quite frankly, if you don’t like the fact she was in porn, you really don’t have to watch her, do you? (Or even listen to this particular ep)

Additionally, the slut-shaming going on here from some posters is pretty sad…unless you’re being forced to watch her for some reason, and have come to earth without sin, I’m impressed with your awesome powers of judgement over her.

Not every guest on the podcast may be of interest to me, or have interesting things to say, but I choose to spend my time at least hearing a different viewpoint/perspective for an hour or so.

Unless you yearn to live in the pre-Internet era of 3 TV channels, no iAnything, and where you had to REALLY WORK to be a nerdist, then maybe you should appreciate what’s being shared with you several times a week, month in-and-out and not present yourselves as whiny-dupa entitled, elitist trolls because you don’t get what you want, when you want it, exactly the way you want it, and that precisely fits your existing worldview without ever challenging it.

  • GooseGanja: Sasha seems to have plenty of dignity and self-respect. I’m sure she doesn’t need you to tell her how to feel about herself.

Could you please also explain how choosing to work in the sex industry means one lacks dignity and self-respect?].

  • Not everyone can pull off a healthy attitude toward sex. Just look at some of these posts. Wow. People have some issues. Get help.

I’m sure I’m not alone in that I DO prefer people who look good and fuck well and bend over and take it up the butt AND are also creative and interested in things beyond their own personal sphere, and are even (sometimes painfully) self-aware. …I prefer them to unthinking obedient Idiots (in the original greek sense of the word) who drift through their lives lacking perspective and understanding nothing.

Excellent podcast. You know you’ve made a good one when it brings out the best & worst in your listeners.

  • Really enjoyed the interview. For your years, Sasha, you’re an engaging, humble, and well grounded soul. Have downloaded the kindle version of Juliette Society to my pad, and as soon as I survive NaNoWriMo, I’ll dive in. Best of luck in your screenwriting efforts. Chris, great guest choice. keep up the good work.

  • A lot of judgment here (alongside a few genuinely humorous comments). To each their own, but I commend Chris for having a guest that would be deemed by some to be “controversial.” I personally found Ms. Grey to be humble and engaging. I found the podcast to be entertaining and interesting. I love the diversity; thanks!

  • So great to see all these comments denigrating her for making money by having sex. Love the positive vibes. Care to tell me how taking STD tests is a bad thing? Everyone should take them.

Nobody is forcing you to watch Sasha’s past work, so why do you feel the need to be a jerk? She’s clearly intelligent, made money, and used porn as a stepping stone to do things she really wants to do. That takes foresight and planning. It’s no different than starting off in a mail room at a company, except it’s shorter hours and pays better.

  • Hey Sac Town, when you say “work hard, sacrifice, and never lose sight of your goals” do you mean … spread your legs, violate your dignity and self respect, and never forget to take your weekly aids test. If that’s what you meant then I totally agree.

  • Love the show, personally disliked the guest. She seems to be intelligent but you can tell she’s a little dead inside. I don’t remember any profound points made but i do remember thinking, what the hell is this broad talking about on several occasions. I judge her because it’s a horrible life decision to do pornography when life is so simple otherwise.

  • One of the more Interesting podcasts from @Nerdist lately. Don’t get me wrong, the movie/studio episodes are great, but its nice to hear something a little less mainstream and new. Thanks Chris!

  • This podcast has gone they way of Comic-Con, by expanding beyond “nerd culture” into all things pop culture. Thank you Chris for bringing your unique voice into new areas for me to explore and enjoy. Sasha is an incredibly talented woman and I look forward to enjoying her future endeavors, whatever they may be. I grew up a few blocks from her and can relate to her desire to achieve greater than the environment. North Highlands can trap you into a life of gangs and poverty, but she is an example of what can happen when you work hard, sacrifice, and never lose sight of your goals, no matter who or what may be in your way.

  • I don’t even wanna try. I remember listening to “The Dude” (Jeff Bridges) episode. It was brutal, I couldn’t listen to his incessant smacking and turned it off almost half way. It sucks because when people can’t communicate like it’s a performance of sound alone, it makes me force skipping an episode after waiting for a new one. You can’t win ‘em all.

  • @Scott & Ships
Blame the Zoom, not her. The mics will pick up all those sounds, you can hear it (admittedly less) in Chris’ voice too. It’s also to blame for the general room noise, reverb and essing. But the convenience of the Zoom outweighs the loss of quality.

  • Could be my misophonia acting up, but I really struggled through this one. Mostly because I felt Sasha Grey’s input was 50 percent actual words and 50 percent loudly swallowing spit and smacking her lips. It’s an eccentricity of mine I try to keep on lock but she triggered it so badly for me this episode that I had to stop just to walk it off T-T

Nothing against her, she’s very charming and intelligent. I won’t even pretend this isn’t just my insanity haha

    Damn you, OCD!

  • Wow, this is a very eloquent woman, she is very beautiful and adding her ease of words, wow, extremely attractive. For me Sasha grey has risen to the level of Nina Hartley. Nerdiest should also invite Nina Hartley, she is also extremely eloquent, and from small bits of interviews I have seen she really have a lot to talk about.

  • great, now that I’ve listened to this and know she’s a real person with hopes and dreams, I can’t masturbate to her videos. Thanks for ruining that for me, Chris.

  • Chris, can you please get some more well known guests? I have NO idea who this is. She keeps on mentioning she used to work in porn, not sure what that is, I’ll have to google it after I get off work.

  • Can we do a pornstar week on Nerdist? I would love to hear some behind the scenes of that world. Also, being that the audience for the Nerdist tends to be internet savvy individuals, I’m sure none of us have ever shown much interest in pornography.
