Start your weekend off right with some hostful goodness! Jonah is still obsessed with Ray Donovan, Chris dropped his lucky pen, and there’s a special appearance by Bruce Gutter’s family!

  • Completely teared up at Chris’ story about his family coming together at the service for his brother. I’m such a pussy.

I’ve really been missing the Hostfuls. Thanks, guys.

  • @nerdist Thanks for the family story. It was actually really nice to hear that it turned out well. Really funny episode. Also a huge Donofan. I recommend it. Not that my opinion means shit…this is, after all, the internets.

  • i love it when you guys talk about sports. admittedly it’s kind of off topic for a nerdist show, but i still like it.

also whenever someone cracks up in the background i crack up. i love it.

  • Love the podcasts, hate when you throw to someone out of range of the microphone so we can’t hear what they are saying. Zero Charisma was a fanfuckingtastic podcast!

  • .
    Freaking awesomerific hostful!

Thanks bunches Chris for sharing the family story…was very sweet and open of ya. The fact that y’all managed to continuiously infuse humor into it while being respectful of the content is a testimony to how well you 3 go together. Dig it.

Also..continued kudo’s to you and the team for @midnight…its pretty much instantly become my “must watch” program every day. All 4 episodes this week were, literally, laugh-out-loud funny thoughout. There’s no freaking way CC wont pick this up (#no-jinx! #macbeth!).
And the hash tag wars are inspired brilliance.

    Peace & Noodle Stories.

  • In Minnesota, we don’t really do any qualifiers for our highways either (except Highway 100.) Otherwise it’s just 35E, 94, etc.

Your coastal ways are strange and frightening to me.

  • Do you remember Showtime had a “Tales From the Crypt” spinoff, “Perversions of Science”? I remember the episode with Kevin Pollak as a space pilot coming home to marry the general’s daughter (William Shatner and his real-life daughter). Unfortunately, he can’t wait and activates an “emergency sex-robot”.

The robot malfunctions and the pilot gets… stuck. He tries to hide his situation from the general and his daughter (but they eventually find out).

    It follows Chris’s advice – “Don’t f–k robots.”

  • i missed the hostful episodes!! thanks for giving one us today it really made my weekend, ill be listening to it over and over all weekend long or until we get another one! lol i love you guys and keep up the awesome job with @midnight. you will always watch or hear anything you guys are on or work on just know that im a fan for life you guys always manage to cheer me up when i need it! now i just need to pick up your book! thanks again guys!! :D

  • This was one of the best Hostful eps ever. From the Gutters shooting it out, to Chris’ amazing family story, to everybody riffing about everything. Thanks so much for the podcast.

  • Somehow whenever I see a Hostful episode I cringe and put off listening to it. But when I get around to it I’m always super entertained. This may be the best Hostful yet. But it’s been a shitty day, so you’re only getting one star you racist fucks.

  • Re: the photo album

NPR did a story on, which apparently is a business that helps people to match up heirlooms with descendants of their owners. I don’t know how well it works, but I saw it in my Facebook feed while listening to the podcast.

  • Fantastic hostful!! Please continue to release what you have even if you dont have time, they are the best!

I will say though that I disagree with Hardwick’s thoughts on internet comments. First, I am just not a fan of armchair psychology and to summarize any mean comments as simply people with shitty lives is problematic. That would be like me saying Chris only takes these comments so seriously and keeps talking about them because of his clear insecurity issues which he attempts to solve through comedy. But I cant say that because I know nothing about you… .Second, I really think Chris should rethink the idea of making every comment with your real name. That could cause immense privacy issues. Especially with everything that is going on with the NSA, do we really need to be able to be identified at all times? Inst that a scary thought idk? Besides that, anonymous comments may generate the occasional ‘ur a fag and ur dumb’ type response, but it also provides a fair representation of opinions. Each comment has to be judged by its content, not by the name or profile picture next to it. I guess my point is dont pay attention to the obviously trolly ones…

Sorry idk why I wrote that im drunk…I love the podcast!!!!

  • Another great Hostful…glad to hear your birth parents are on speaking terms again. Sad to think that the last time they spoke was when I gradumated high school, but at least they can talk to each other again.

I think comments are like anything else when people give you teh feedback…some is good, a lot is bad, and the rest is meh. It’s really the only way someone is going to be able to interact with a wide swath of fans, even the negative fans.
I’d like to think people can leave their angry feels behind when they spew them out online, but I’m not sure human nature always works that way.

Something I’d be interested in is a separate @midnight feed here on nerdist, with behind the scenes stuff or other things like that; even if you have something on the Twitface or PinBook, I think Nerdist should be the home for talking about the show.

  • In PA, we just say ’83’ ’76’ ‘476’ etc instead of “the’ in front of them

Chris – so interesting to hear about your brother’s reburial. It really does make you believe in things happening for a reason.

  • Nope. Opposite of unsubscribe. I love the hostfuls, although they’re hazardous to listen to at work when you have to stifle laughter constantly. (OMG the Walking Dead theme with lyrics)

  • I can’t tell if you were purposely trying to be accurate to “The Californians” which got all the names right but the locations/directions wrong on the SoCal roads & freeways, but…the 91 doesn’t go to Marina Del Rey. That’s the 90, aka the Marina freeway. The 91 ends down in Gardena near the 110.

But I’m only partway thru the podcast, so maybe you guys catch that by the end… :P

  • Chris! You must put that photo album online! I did something similar with my family’s photos when wildfires threatened my house. I scanned every photo, even if I didn’t know the people in them and posted to my flickr account.

Many of the photos had had zero significance to me, but a few had a huge impact on complete strangers who recognized family or old friends that they had lost. To them, the photos were treasures. Giving that gift to them is a real thrill.

I would be happy to help scan them if you need it.

Love @midnight and seeing you guys at SD Comicon. :)

  • This episode is even sadder given the current news. My deepest condolences to the Hardwick family. I met Mr. Billy Hardwick once for like a second. Ok, anything else I say on the matter will seem weird and shallow so I’ll just end by saying *HUGS* to Chris and his family.

  • […] This is a recent Nerdist podcast where Chris Hardwick talks about how his Mom and Dad started to talk to each other for the first time since the 1980′s.  It’s really bitter sweet given the current news.  It is comforting to know that before his death he was able to mend his relationship with Chris’ Mom.
