The magnificently talented Manga artist Sara Mayhew has crafted this piece which I love not only for the fact that the foreground girl has my podcast logo on her bikini, but the background girl is wearing one of those “Nice Tweets” swim sets I had been hoping to manufacture. And who could be mad at an adorable creature ball??? JERKS. That’s who.

Sara tells me that the Japanese writing above the “N” says “otaku” and the writing below the logo says “super cute.” Now that is some damn good Manga!!!

New York artist and graphic designer Mary Berras came up with one of those simple yet elegant ideas that makes you say, “Dammit! Why didn’t YOU think of that, My Own Brain??!”

Galaga was Namco’s 1981 sequel to the hugely popular Galaxian, and quickly surpassed its predecessor in popularity. I mean, fighting fight space bees, butterflies & mecha-Cicadae with tractor beams, how could it not? The assiest part of the game was that after hours of gameplay and 255 levels culminating in a final challenge stage the game rewarded you by resetting and erasing your score. I call it “The Communist Gold Star,” or the reward of deleting all record of personal achievement. Fortunately or unfortunately I never received that bittersweet punch-hug of success despite dumping hundreds upon hundreds of quarters into the machine that lived in my dad’s bowling center.

Still, I have nothing but fond memories for this galactic insect-themed fixed shooter and also for Mary Berras who was nerd-savvy enough to bring this awesome design to the Nerdist fold. Follow her and her super-groovy cadet Jacob on Twitter or see some of her Web work here.

Nerdimals are my favorite thing in the world right now and were created for this site by the super-kick-ass Athens, Georgian artist Lauren Gregg. This perky lass is BRIMMING with talent. In addition to the fine art reflecting light into your glassy orbs, Lauren is one half of the animation company Kangaroo Alliance AND plays friggin’ bass in the groovy CMYK-themed band The Buddy System.

I know, I know! You all want to marry her! I can’t speak for her relationship status because that’s what social networks are for. But I CAN tell you to visit her many project sites and let her wiggly worms of artistic wonderfulness burrow their way into your heart where they will lay eggs of joy.

This inaugural offering is by my pal Carlos Ramos who created a beautifully animated show I was on called “The X’s.” For no reason that I can think of I asked him to do something with “Clash of the Titans,” a film that dared to re-imagine the squid-like Kraken of Norse mythology  as a humanoid gargoyle in the Mediterranean Sea.

The result is STUNNINGLY nerdtastic. You got the Kraken there, Pegasus, and of course, Bubo the mechanical owl. I want to smear this picture directly onto my brain! View more of Carlos’ work on his blog and don’t neglect to see the card from his art show last year entitled, “Natural History Museum.” Your eyes will thank you.
