In the coming weeks, a Nerdist social network called “The Node” shall be slowly crawling its way online. One of the focuses of the site will be Nerdsourcing, or crowdsourcing with nerds. Essentially, I believe nerds to be capable of pretty much anything they put their OCD minds to. I want to harness this power for GOOD. No, it won’t always involve promoting a thing for me. Usually it will involve helping others, meeting like-minded nerds or just creating general nonsense for the hell of it. Beta testing invites will go out soon, so stay tuned to this site the way you would a television channel that was about to flash the antidote for the poison you just drank.

After a couple of tremendously successful experiments with the promotion of my stand-up shows with Street Teams, I have decided to make it an official thing from now on! The main complaint was that the name “Street Team” sounded like I was trying to promote a 90s hip hop radio station, so all regional promotion teams shall henceforth be known as NODE WARRIORS. This has been an invaluable way to test out the mechanics of the forums on The Node so if you decide to enlist as a Node Warrior you will receive an immediate invite to the site, as well as tickets to the show and a fun meet-up with myself and the other Warriors. YOU MIGHT EVEN MAKE A FRIEND.

Jonah Ray does this great monthly comedy show at Meltdown in LA. Usually there’s beer, and this week The Baby’s Badass Burger truck is going to be there and I am not shitting you a WHIT when I say that they make the best sliders in the short history of sliders. Seriously.

This month Jonah has assembled a ninja-grade team comedians. If you haven’t seen Kyle Kinane, you are depriving yourself of laughter. Additionally, I shall be trying out some new jokey jokes at this show.

Jonah Ray of Web Soup and Nerdist Podcast fame has a monthly comedy show in the back room of Meltdown Comics on Sunset. This line-up is PHENOMENAL so if you’re in LA tonight you MUST gotothere.

$8 for amazing comedy and FREE BEER??? You’d be crazy NOT to do it!

This is about a third of the Nerdist Seattle Street Team. These wonderful peeps took time out of their lives to help promote my show for the last couple of weeks. Friday night, we went to Cafe Metropolitain in Capitol Hill where we watched a hypnotic 80s burlesque show (that’s 80s music, not 80 year-old ladies) and then a handful of us went across the street for tea and pie.

The street team has been an amazing experiment that worked well beyond any expectations I had. Not only did ticket sales improve, but I had the pleasure of hanging out with a group of fun, creative and nice folks. None of these street teamers really knew each other before this, but I get the sense that new friendships were forged during drag queen belly dancing. Ultimately, this is a case where the Internet helped create a community reaching into meatspace, and isn’t that the way it should be?

As far as I know, there are still a few tickets left for this show tonight so if you have time, make a spontaneous decision to go. Mike Phirman will be opening and there will be stand-up and music. I can promise you a terrific show. If you hate it, I will take a picture with you where I’m shrugging and you’re wagging a finger at me. You can post it online, and I’ll retweet it as a sign that I failed to hold up my end of the bargain…but I swear that will not happen!!!

Here’s where it all started. On Christmas Day in 1981, my parents gave me the gift of an official Andy Gibb wireless microphone that played through any standard radio. My act is slightly less dirty than it was back then, but the passion to tell jokes to strangers with an amplification device remains.
