MATH BITES Goes Binary

MathBitesBinary

by on January 23, 2014

Understand how binary numbers work? No? Well, Danica McKellar has your explanation on the latest edition of the Nerdist Channel’s Math Bites. Boolean logic FTW.

Really, if jokes, baseball, puppets with a limited number of fingers, and two song parodies don’t get you to understand the concept, nothing will.

Hey, follow Danica on Twitter! And watch all the episodes of Math Bites here! While you’re at it, buy Danica’s books here!

Subscribe to the Nerdist Channel, and if you think I’m gonna do a terrible, totally derivative binary-type joke here like “you have 10 choices, subscribe or don’t,” you’re… damn, I just did it. Sorry.

LogoAtMidnightThis week’s run of @midnight with Chris Hardwick on Comedy Central launched last night with Arden Myrin, Al Madrigal, and Rob Huebel, and of COURSE Richard Sherman’s post-NFC Championship rant came up right away. It had to. But they also imagined stuff available for free on Craigslist, made reality TV somehow even worse, gave some Vines the titles they were missing, and addressed Madonna’s Instagram transgression.

Proof? Clips:

Free on Craigslist – Birthing Tub, Slightly Used

#HashtagWars – #WorseRealityShows

Rich Cat Poor Cat – Quite a Few Four Lokos

Name That Vine – Gollum Goes to Rehab

Rapid Refresh – Madonna Celebrates MLK Day

See the whole episode by clicking here.

Tonight? Scott Aukerman, “Weird Al” Yankovic, and Brian Posehn (yeah, some schedule changes from last week’s released guest lineup. Deal with it.). Watch ‘em wax witty at 12/11c on Comedy Central, right after The Colbert Report. Follow the show’s Tumblr and, of course, make sure you’re following the Twitter account, because you’re the best corner in the game.

A New Trailer For 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE

Screen Shot 2014-01-20 at 10.10.30 AM

by on January 20, 2014

The new third official trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire has arrived, hot on the heels of a new TV spot that aired on the AFC and NFC Championship games Sunday. No, Richard Sherman’s not in it, though that would be entertaining. Here’s the new trailer:

As you know by now, Lena Headey is back as Queen Gorgo, Rodrigo Santoro returns as Xerxes, and Sullivan Stapleton, who’s best known in Australia for being in a bunch of TV shows and in the movie Animal Kingdom, and Eva Green are the leads. It’s based on Frank Miller’s Xerxes.

Oh, and for posterity, here’s the TV spot that aired Sunday:

300: Rise of an Empire opens on March 7th. We’ll note here that Legendary Pictures, co-production company with Warner Bros., owns Nerdist Industries, although we’re editorially independent. And, yeah, we’ve been seeing trailers for this one since last June, so if you’ve been awaiting this one with fevered anticipation, you only have a month and a half to go.

by on January 19, 2014

Miami Beach’s annual Art Basel brings tens of thousands of people from all around the world to see some of the most unusual art on display anywhere. For the 2013 event last month, Anna Newman took the Nerdist News cameras to see stuff like a solar powered “little sun,” an office in which everything “breathes,” a Shepard Fairey collection, and the Deluxx Fluxx Arcade, which will be of particular interest to you, most likely.

Bill Murray Does A Reddit AMA, And It’s As Awesome As You’d Hope It Would Be

Bill Murray did an AMA on Reddit. Popped in, did it, popped out to do Kimmel. It’s awesome. It’s exactly what you want it to be. Mostly long, thoughtful, funny answers. He tells of making Garfield (“sort of like Fantastic Mr Fox without the joy or the fun”), the current SNL cast, making Groundhog Day and Broken Flowers, recreational pot, and the best sandwich he’s ever eaten.

Go, read it.
