Again, spoilers (like winter) are coming. You’ve been warned.
If you would have given me one hundred guesses about the contents of the Guardians of the Galaxy end credits scene, I wouldn’t have come anywhere close to getting it right. I’d heard Howard the Duck creators Steve Gerber and Val Mayerik had a nod in the credits, but I got so wrapped up in the adventurous movie that I completely forgot to keep an eye out for Marvel’s Donald Duck-esque character. But, there he was – and voiced by Seth Green! His appearance in the Collector’s stasis pods cracked me up and tickled my memory because we’ve already seen the set up in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
“The Collector” is the fourth episode of the Marvel animated series, and it aired in August of last year. Written by Eugene Son, the episode features Hulk and Spider-Man getting swept up by the Collector. He doesn’t want to add the two heroes to his collection of stasis pods, but he’s all for eliminating them. Before the Collector gets to that, he takes the time to brag about his mint condition, magnificent assortment of heroes. And guess what? He has Howard the Duck:
Coincidence? Probably, but then again, Marvel seems to plan everything to the last detail. I bet they didn’t set up the Guardians of the Galaxy end credits scene way back in 2012 or 2013 when this episode was written, but maybe it sparked the idea. Either way, I can’t wait to learn whether the reappearance of Howard the Duck means new plans for the character are in the works.
