OK, Fine: Benedict Cumberbatch’s Ice Bucket Video is Pretty Charming, We Admit It
By Alicia Lutes on August 22, 2014
We are all for the good the Ice Bucket Challenge is doing for ALS research and fundraising. It’s a truly impressive feat, and, let’s admit it: it’s always nice to see the Internet use its powers for good. But, to be fair, we’re a bit worn out on watching these celebrity videos — there’s only so much wasted water us drought-ridden Californians can watch without feeling a few twinges of guilt and jealousy about how willy-nilly the rest of the world can be about its H2O usage. But we will admit: Benedict Cumberbatch has unleashed his own cheeky take, and it’s pretty damn charming — as we suppose everyone out there would expect it to be.
Damn you, Cumberbatch! Damn you and your upstanding British charm and humor. And double damn that hilariously expressive face. Only he could will us into writing about yet another Ice Bucket Challenge video. (We’ve also got a round-up of ‘em here and one from our fearless nerdleader Mr. Hardwick if you so wish to further indulge.) They’re great and highly effective but admit it: there’s been a LOT of them at this point, hasn’t there? After being nominated several times by folks such as fellow British dreamboat Tom Hiddleston, the ‘Batch took the cold water in the face not one, or twice, or even three times. In fact the poor fella looks to spend the rest of his life running from buckets of the chilly, water-based reality-bringer.
There’s nowhere the ‘Batch is safe! Nowhere the ‘Batch can hide! What a Cumberbummer, eh?
Alright, let’s discuss: which Ice Bucket Challenge video is the best you’ve seen thus far? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
