Weird Al Closes Out #8days8videos with ‘Mission Statement’

It’s been an interesting week for musician Weird Al. It almost seemed impossible that the artist would be revealing not just one but a slew of music videos in his #8videos8days project, but that’s exactly what he did for tracks including “Tacky,” “Foil,” “Handy,” “Sports Song,” “First World Problems,” “Lame Claim to Fame” and “Word Crimes.” Today, the amazing marketing campaign for the musician’s latest album, Mandatory Fun, comes to an end with the final video of the set, “Mission Statement,” done in the style of Crosby, Stills & Nash. Check it out:

NOTE: Like the video for “First World Problems,” this embed will not work until tomorrow. For now, feel free to head over to the The Wallstreet Journal to view the video.

There’s something to respect about how many videos released this week don’t actually feature Weird Al but are rather some nifty animated things. There was “Word Crimes,” which was done in a flash animation style, the stop-motion style in “Lame Claim to Fame,” and now this fast-forward hand drawn style for “Mission Statement.” The amount of work it takes to pull off something like this is intense, so props to Weird Al for finding the very talented people that could pull it off.

All in all, the real winners this week are Weird Al fans. It’s been three years since his last album, and this was a great way to be reminded of how much we love the artist’s work. We don’t when there will be more Weird Al in the future (this can’t really be the end, can it?), but we hope it’s soon.

What do you think of the new video for “Mission Statement?” Which video was your favorite this past week? Let us know in the comments below.
