Tony Daniel to Write and Draw DEATHSTROKE Ongoing in October
By Charles Webb on July 2, 2014
One-eyed merc Deathstroke is getting his own ongoing this fall written and drawn by Detective Comics‘ Tony S. Daniel, DC revealed in an interview with MTV.
The publisher is describing the book as a fight for Slade Wilson’s life, although which of his many, many enemies is trying to kill him remains to be seen (probably all of them?).
“The deadliest mercenary in the DC Universe, a.k.a. Slade Wilson (as seen on the CW TV series Arrow) stars in his own new monthly series written and drawn by Tony S. Daniel (Superman/Wonder Woman, Detective Comics).
See Deathstroke as never before in this exciting new series, with one surprise after another as we see Slade Wilson in the fight of his life! He is, without question, the world’s greatest assassin and one of the most feared people on the planet—he’s been a mercenary-for-hire after his involvement in Team 7, has been recruited onto Task Force X, a.k.a The Suicide Squad—now we’ll get to know more about the complex man behind the missions.”
Maybe the most interesting thing there is the Team 7 call-out: since the New 52 relaunch, DC has been wedding elements from the WildStorm universe into the new DCU, and while Team 7 has popped up before (with Black Canary as a member), I’m wondering if that means we might see more of the 90s, gun-toting types inspired by Deathstroke from that era popping up in the book (Deathblow has already made an appearance).
Below, you can find the cover for the first issue – what do you think of Daniel’s Deathstroke design?
