This Week at NerdMelt: Basically the Best Week Ever
By H. Alan Scott on July 7, 2014
Are you all like, “Wow, there’s literally nothing to do after the 4th of July?” Boy, are you wrong! There are so many awesome things happening at the NerdMelt Showroom! Below are this week’s shows, but for a full list of shows in July and beyond, check out the calendar. While you’re at it, follow NerdMelt here, oh, and here. OK, here too.
July 8th at 9pm – An Evening With Karen Kilgariff
The NerdMelt Showroom proudly presents a night of stand-up comedy with one of our favorites, KAREN KILGARIFF! Come join her as she performs a longer set and invites some friends to open, including Jon Dore, Chirs Fairbanks & Guy Branum!
July 9th at 8:30pm – The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail
Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani helm the good ship Meltdown every single Wednesday, to host the show that’s been named one of the best live shows in LA by LA Weekly, Splitsider, and more. At The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, you’ll see some of the biggest comics, up and coming acts just before they get famous, and as always, surprise drop-ins that will knock your socks off.
July 10th at 9pm – This Show Is Your Show with Matt and Moses
This show is more than a show. It’s your show. Matt Bennett (Victorious, The Virginity Hit) and Moses Storm presents a night featuring Matt, Moses and friends, and even some special guests, for an hour of standup, sketch, music, interviews, and more.
July 11th at 9pm – The Friday Forty
Scott Gimple and Dave Holmes host this current-affairs sketch-comedy quiz show where the performers get a little liquid courage to help them answer 40 questions about the events of the last 7 days!
Bee Funny is a comedy show with smashingly funny comedians battling each other for the headlining spot, in the most brutal of all arenas… A SPELLING BEE.
Who will win the glory? Whoever can spell it.
The irrepressible Guy Branum (Chelsea Lately, Totally Biased, Talk Show the Game Show) judges, and also provides the contestants with their word used in a sentence, in the form of an insult about the contestant’s mother.
With special guests:
Hosted and created by Susanna Lee (Peeping Comics, Dirty Birdie Story Hour).
July 12th at 9pm – Horrible Movie Night
Shout at the movies! We screen the worst films you’ve never seen, and invite YOU to roast them — the best one-liners of the night will win prizes. If you like MST3K and RiffTrax, this is your scene!
Your hosts for the evening, JOHN MATHOT (Disney’s Phineas & Ferb), and SUSAN WRIGHT (The Because Show podcast) will present 1989’s “PROVOKED”. When the robbery of a payroll company becomes a hostage standoff, it’s up to Americana from the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling to save the day in a blaze of glory! A bizarre and hilarious action movie with guns, ski masks, and the world’s worst pizza delivery.
There will be comedy from MATT McCARTHY (The Pete Holmes Show, We Watch Wrestling podcast) and C.J. TOLEDANO (The Soup Investigates, former writer for Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon), PRIZES and FREE POPCORN! Wrestle your way down to the show, and get your tickets now!
July 13th at 8pm – Harmontown
What is Harmontown? It’s awesome. It’s unique. It’s one of a kind. It’s something only Dan Harmon (creator of Community and Rick and Morty) and Jeff B. Davis (Whose Line is it Anyway) can do. It’s a different show every time and it’s every week. Lucky us!
Playing Dungeons and Dragons? It’s happened. Dan Harmon freestyle rapping? Yup, that too. Calling Chevy Chase from stage? Happened… more than once. A celebrity guest? Allison Brie, Donald Glover, and Gillian Jacobs among others have all stopped in. Getting super personal with an intimate audience? Always. It’s Harmontown. It’s awesome. It’s unique. Don’t miss a single week.
