DOCTOR WHO Screening Info PLUS Chris Hardwick to Host Pre- and Post-Shows
By Kyle Anderson on July 31, 2014
Last week saw the announcement that, much like The Day of the Doctor back in November, Doctor Who‘s Series 8 premiere episode, the feature-length “Deep Breath,” would screen in over 1,500 cinemas worldwide, in 2D of course since it wasn’t shot in stereoscopy. Now, we have a little bit more for you about schedules and what not, as well as some pre- and post-episode stuff broadcasting on August 23rd, 2014.
First, the cinema news. It seems that “Deep Breath” will mainly be screening on Monday, August 25th here in the U.S., in another partnership with Fathom Events. There will be two showings, at 7:00pm and 9:30pm local times, at more than 550 theaters in the States. There will also be very select showings of it on August 23rd at midnight local time (meaning Saturday night, after the premiere on BBC America). Only 12 cities will participate in that one, and more information will be forthcoming beginning August 5th. You can buy tickets and get more information on Fathom Events’ website.
As for the specials. Our own Nerdist Overlord Chris Hardwick will be hosting Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show at 7:30pm ET and Doctor Who: After Who Live at 11:00pm ET following the premiere of Intruders on August 23 on BBC America. “Deep Breath,” of course, airs between 8 and 10 ET. The pre-show and post-show will feature an array of guests in the studio including writer and actor Mark Gatiss along with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
And as if that weren’t enough, BBC America, as they often do, will be getting you pumped up for the premiere with screenings of specials and episodes pertaining to Doctor Who. Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion premieres on Saturday, August 16, 9:00pm ET followed by The Real History of Science Fiction: Time at 10:00pm ET and Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord on Monday, August 18, 10:00pm ET. The 18th will also be the beginning of their takeover week, leading up to the premiere of “Deep Breath” on that Saturday.
So, as you can see, lots of Who-yness going on in and around the kickoff of the new series. It’s pretty damned exciting. Juice up the sonic and get your inertial dampeners running smoothly because it’s going to be quite a journey.
