Stephen King, John Mellencamp & T-Bone Burnett Supernatural Musical to Tour North America This Fall

Ghost Brothers of Darkland County  is the Southern gothic musical that brought together the talents of horror legend Stephen King, John Mellencamp, and mega-producer T-Bone Burnett. After taking several months off since its premiere in 2013, the show, which originally appeared on stage at the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta’s Tony-winning theater, will go back on tour this fall. The tour begins on November 8 in Orono, ME (considering King’s involvement, how appropriate!) and will travel North America for about a month concluding in San Francisco on December 5.

For those of you who wont be able to attend the live production, which Mellencamp described to USA Today as “‘more in the tradition of an old radio show,’ with ‘not as much movement’ as in the original stage production, ‘so it distracts less from Steve’s story,'” Ghost Brothers of Darkland County is available in various formats including digital download on Amazon and iTunes complete with the musical’s songs, dialogue excerpts, and digital libretto. The music is performed by the likes of Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson, Rosanne Cash, Taj Mahal and Mellencamp himself, among others. Voice talent includes Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey, Meg Ryan, and Samantha Mathis.

Burnett most recently scored the HBO drama True Detective, and its chosen theme song by The Handsome Family is one of the most memorable show intros to date. The musical tone of both projects are definitely in the same wheelhouse. If you’re still skeptical of a blues ‘n roots supernatural musical, you can preview the entire soundtrack on Spotify. While all the songs are wonderful, top picks include “So Goddam Smart,” “You Don’t Know Me,” “Tear This Cabin Down,” and “And Your Days Are Gone.”

Ghost Brothers of Darkland County” goes back on tour in North America starting November 8.
