Fan-Made Video Brings BOOK OF MORMON to the World of SOUTH PARK
By Jake Kroeger on June 20, 2014
Matt Stone and Trey Parker have built a satirical legacy off of their long-running animated series South Park, and their incredibly successful musical Book of Mormon. While they have their own motivations at work, the two entities have rarely crossed paths. Sure, Stone and Parker have targeted Mormonism in South Park and have even said in one episode that Mormonism was the answer to getting into heaven. Even so, the songs and dance numbers by the various Elders aren’t oft seen in the town of South Park, Colorado. Well, a fan by the name of Simon Chong loves both South Park and Book of Mormon immensely, so he took it upon himself to bring the two together.
Using the song “Hello” from Book of Mormon and backgrounds from the South Park: Stick of Truth video game, Chong animated Elder Price and company knocking on the unsuspecting doors throughout South Park. The result is dead on. In fact, if you didn’t know about Simon’s involvement, you might’ve thought that Matt and Trey arranged this themselves. Thankfully, the video has stayed online despite not being affiliated with Matt, Trey, South Park, or The Book of Mormon in any official capacity.
There’s no telling where this mash-up will go from here, but it wouldn’t be hard to imagine Cartman dealing with the overly zealous and joyful Mormons from the stage musical. After all, Salt Lake City isn’t that far from South Park.
