HBO’s Biblical Rapture Series THE LEFTOVERS Gets a Trailer
By Eric Diaz on May 23, 2014
Thanks to the incredible success of Game of Thrones, HBO has once again become the place to be for ambitious genre storytelling, although their latest series based on a novel is a whole different kind of fantasy than anything going on in Westeros. Debuting the week after True Blood’s final season opener is the premiere episode of new series The Leftovers, from producer Damon Lindelof, the man behind Lost, not to mention the screenwriter for recent movies such as Prometheus and Star Trek Into Darkness, credits that will either make you super excited to see this project, or have you running to the hills for cover. Lindelof is bringing The Leftovers together with novelist Tom Perrotta, which is based on his best-selling 2011 book of the same name.
This new series is a serialized multi-character story set in the aftermath of the Biblical Rapture, or at least what people believe is the Rapture, because it’s not entirely clear to everyone left behind (so to speak) that all those people ascending into heaven is actually what really happened. The show has a star studded cast featuring well known actors like Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Max Carver, Charlie Carver, and Annie Q starring. With Damon Lindelof running this show, we’re going in expecting lots of questions raised and about two of them answered. So fair warning.
The Leftovers premieres on June 29th. Check out the latest trailer, featuring someone who is not Stevie Nick singing Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams over images of lots of people looking sad.
