BLADE RUNNER 2 Really, Really Wants Harrison Ford Back

Well, this is a first. Usually, we get sent press releases after an actor accepts a role, but today we got one about an actor who has been offered a role. Yes, Alcon Entertainment has offered Harrison Ford the lead role in their Ridley Scott-directed Blade Runner 2. Nothing is confirmed; they’ve only offered Ford the chance to play Rick Deckard again, but here’s the press release for clarity’s sake:

“Warner Bros-based Alcon Entertainment (‘Prisoners,’ ‘The Blind Side,’ ‘The Book of Eli’) has an offer out to Harrison Ford to reprise his celebrated role of Rick Deckard in its Ridley Scott-directed sequel to ‘Blade Runner,’ it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the 1982 adaptation) and Michael Green are the screenwriters. While the story is being kept under wraps, it takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original.

State Johnson and Kosove: “We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project.”

Several decades after the original? Interesting — that’d take us to approximately 2049 or so, huh? Taking a break from being his usual surly self, past guest on the Nerdist podcast, Harrison Ford sounded off on the prospect of returning to Blade Runner in a Reddit AMA:

“I’m quite curious and excited about seeing a new script for ‘Blade Runner’ if in fact the opportunity would exist to do another, if it’s a good script I would be very anxious to work with Ridley Scott again, he’s a very talented and passionate filmmaker, and I think it would be very interesting to revisit the character.”

Well, it certainly sounds like Ford and Alcon are on the same page. All they need is “a good script”, so no pressure, Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, no pressure. Otherwise, all these casting rumors and press releases will be lost like tears in the rain.

What do you think? Would you like to see Ford reprise his Blade Runner role? Let us know in the comments below or tell us on Twitter.

  • Well F* me. So many stories out there that have been crying for filming for decades and the cowards stick to the comfort zone. Not that I expect any of them to have the talent or guts to properly create The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, The Stars My Destination, Mockinbird, or The Shockwave Rider, Let alone Mona Lisa Overdrive or The Diamond Age.

  • With Prometheus  in mind, I kinda wish Scott would just leave Blade Runner alone.  We’ve got all the different versions of the original one as is. I’d rather not have it screwed up by a crappy sequel (that will most likely be visually breathtaking, but still…).

  • This is great news, but we also need Rachel back, and, most importantly, Vangelis!! Roy, unfortunately, is gone, but they were replicants so another one could be made to look like him… :)

  • What scares me about this, is that I have heard this sort of stuff from Harrison before. Still, they made the 4th Indiana Jones anyway.

I love Blade Runner and many of Ridley Scott’s movies. So, there is still hope since George Lucas (HACK) is not involved with the movie.

This could be a wonderful film.
