New Teaser for Guillermo del Toro Vampire Series THE STRAIN

There’s a new teaser up and running for FX’s upcoming drama/horror series The Strain. Based on the trilogy of books written by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, The Strain is a more scientific take on the traditional vampire mythology.

Originally pitched as a TV show but passed on by the networks, executives changed their tune when AMC found that it had a smash hit on its hands with The Walking Dead. American Horror Story, Hannibal, Bates Motel, and other genre shows followed, and The Strain now finds itself with a 13 episode order from FX and del Toro directing the pilot episode.

Everything about this project sounds so exciting; I’ve read the first book, and if the show brings to the table what del Toro and Hogan have imagined on the page, it’s going to be really awesome and unique. Fans of the novels will recognize exactly what’s happening in the “Pupil” teaser below.

The Strain premieres on FX this July.

  • Read the books….and they were AWESOME…..I often thought while reading the books….if the right person can make this into a movie…..
    TA DA….its happening this summer…

  • The books were terrible. But let me clarify: the story the books tell is AMAZING. It’s easily the most unique and interesting take on vampires I’ve ever heard. I loved the story. But the WRITING is, in places, beyond awful. They were hard to read at times. The story was, luckily, engaging enough that I pressed on. I encourage people to read the books for the story they tell, but don’t expect the writing quality to be very high.

But back to the topic at hand, I’m super stoked for this show. I think it’s in REALLY good hands with FX, who has shown with American Horror Story that it can pull of a horror series brilliantly. This summer is gonna rock.

  • I remember reading the premise of the first book and thinking it was something I’d be really into. I read the book and loved it. It was very easy to see how it was a project which started out intended for the screen.

I loved the first book so much, that I simply couldn’t wait for the continuation of the trilogy… then The Fall came out… Never has a book been so aptly titled. I positively hated this book. I can’t even pin point what it was that I didn’t like, and it was long enough ago that I don’t remember many of the details, but I remember slogging through it out of a sense of necessity, but it was enough that it made me not even pursue the third book.

I’m normally not one to start a series and not finish it no matter how bad it gets, but there was something about that second book that swore me off the series. I hope the show leaves me feeling differently.

  • The Strain itself was a clever premise, the new take take on vamparism refreshing even. The characters were engaging but it fell(pun unintended) during bk2 and the conclusion was terrible. I trust Guillermo though as both a producer, Director, writer and a fanboy to give the story enough time to breathe and allow the audience to soak up the oncoming darkness. In addition to keeping the story close to the human element

  • Freaky! Eek! Having not read the books, I’ll give this a shot. BUT alien things entering my body = grossly terrifying and why I can’t watch horror movies.
I love del Toro …. I’ll watch with my braver sister. .. with the lights on!

  • I really wish I loved the books more. I thought the premise was really cool but the execution/writing was just so bad. I can see it translating to screen a lot better though.
