Here’s Your First Look At The CW’s SUPERNATURAL: BLOODLINES

For the uninitiated, around this time last year, The CW began toying with the idea of creating a spin-off series to Supernatural. The plan, according to various writers and executives, was to create a show based in one central location, Chicago, and give the franchise some isolation. This is how the now-titled Supernatural: Bloodlines came to be. The series will supposedly follow the world of the Chicago underbelly, which is currently being run by five different monster families, and will be launched with a back-door pilot episode set to air next week on Supernatural.

The CW has finally revealed a first look at the world being built (a world that even made our top 10 pilots to keep an eye on for next season):

In the episode (written by Andrew Dabb and directed by Robert Singer), Sam and Dean will travel to the windy city to investigate a case, during which they run into a man named Ennis. It’s through this mystery character they learn about the mafia-like Chicago families, and how Ennis is connected to them.

It’s also worth noting, for what it’s worth, series creator Erik Kripke is being listed as an executive producer on the series, a title not normally given to creators that don’t have direct involvement in a spin-off to their series. The extent of his involvement is still up for speculation.

Supernatural airs Tuesday at 9/8c on The CW.

  • To all of you complaining…then just don’t watch it!!! Supernatural is still going to be on and no one is forcing you to watch the new series. Good lord you people need to learn how to unclench.

  • To everyone comparing this to the Dresden Files outside of the setting and the fact that it contains supernatural aspects what makes you say that? To people suggesting another city where would you put it? They obviously want a large city with mob ties and big name recognition. The only other location I can think of is Vegas. That would change the tone of the show significantly, and it isn’t as centrally located. If it were set in LA the Angel comparisons would be starting, setting it in New York would invite half a dozen or more urban fantasy comparisons. Outside of the two aforementioned elements it seems to share little with Dresden. In Dresden one vanilla human runs the underworld, not monsters. We saw nothing about 3 different vampire courts, Loup Garous, Seelie and Unseelie Sidhe, or many of the other key elements that make Dresden unique. To say that the setting invites Dresden comparisons would mean that The Good Wife and the upcoming game Watchdogs both invite them as well.

  • This is news to me I had heard about a spin off about The origins of the colt back when the colt was created. Not a vampire hunter series, Supernatural hunts everything, to me this has nothing to do w/Supernatural. Not that it matters you going to do what you want anyways, But Do Not Stamp it W/Supernatural. Just call it Bloodlines! Also you can bring Bobby back anytime and / or their Farther.

  • @Lisa M, yes, I do believe I read in an article that “Crowley” would make guest appearances in the “Bloodlines” series. Not too sure about the others.

  • hmmm dunno what i shoul think about that… will watch a few episodes for taking a better picture. but it looks that they ignore the events… what’s with the angelsfall? i hate it if something big happens… and the winchesters are out for lousy hunt. so why should this one be more important than sam and deans job for heaven and hell? we will see… but i thought at the beginning, that they will do an spinoff, they expand the universe where supernatural takes place. but it still looks like a monstergangster story. this monsterfamily stuff comes tooo late. in my opinion it should happen before castiel comes to earth. but now everything goes bigger. and this monsterfamilystuff isnt important enough for the whole puzzle i think. as i said… will give em a chance. i hope in the future supernatural goes in another direction like the new series… more deeper and closer to an event. the last 3 seasons we have more fillers than episodes who carry the story. i mean… i love those boys… but i hate this hunting crap which has no content to the story. i rly hope the producers and writers take a look around what other series do. just transfer the criminal series into the supernatural. make 12 episodes instead of 23. but take a better focus. introduce slowly new enemies and friends, show more about the background what all parties do. supernatural has many good actors and charakters… why they not use them with whole potential? okay sorry its a little bit off-topic and also in my lousy english… sorry for that… wish u all a good night. and fun with sn. hope they can fix it and do it a better way.

  • SERIOUSLY………………………5 families of different monsters. I loved Supernatural because they went after them. Loved the demons and the angels, the whole idea of it. When they talked about a spin off I thought they would have a spin off of other hunters and their stories, maybe sometimes interacting with the Winchesters once in awhile. But the idea of becoming attached to these monster families…..NO
I think the continuation of the original idea. Maybe angels showing what was happening to them up there or down here. Or what is going on with Crowley and Abbadon. But this idea does not appeal to me at all. Reminds me of the Vampire Diaries and why do we need a repeat of a different show entirely. Keep the same theme. GOOD GUYS v.s BAD GUYS. Use hunters or angels but keep it similar to what we already like…………..

  • I love Supernatural just the way it is. I wouldn’t watch a spin off if Jensen Ackles and Jared Padelicki weren’t the stars. I love Castiel, Bobby and even Crowley, but Sam and Dean ARE THE SHOW! If the plan is to end Supernatural to start this new show, forget it! Remember what happened with Star Trek and Star Trek the Next Generation? The fans were furious and still are and those shows are more popular now than ever. LEAVE DEAN AND SAM ALONE!

  • Being born and raised in Chicago there is lots of story lines that they can go with to make for a really awesome series. Keeping a open mind, everyone loves Supernatural I think it sounds like a great idea. I think it would be a awesome if it was aired opposite season time to Supernatural so that we fans have year round entertainment. Hint hint! I am a inpatient fan having to wait a whole summer without something to watch. :)

  • I think a spin-off would be a cool idea, but I really think they should focus more on Supernatural’s already intricate storyline rather than creating all these filler episodes that don’t do much for plot advancement.

  • i’m thinking some here don’t know what a spin off is. it’s a totally new show, separate from the original. Supernatural will still be on, just as it is. and this spin off sounds way too much like The Originals, so dont’ get the point but like someone above said, if i don’t like it, i won’t watch it.. simple….

  • Hmmmm… no Winchesters,, but interested.. Was kinda hoping for some kind of Arrow influences or something (f.e the Winchesters meet a hunter who’s “famous” for using a bow and arrow) in at least 1 episode

  • I hope it’s not like the Originals. I hate that show. It’s like a soap opera with vampires. I hope it’s more like Supernatural, with wit and integrity, and a little gore thrown in.

  • I love Supernatural. I really enjoy shows like Dresden Files, Kindred, and the like, so I’m looking forward to this. I only wish it was taking place in St. Louis; I was glad to see my hometown region getting some love on Supernatural (kinda, I mean, they were there but never really showed the city). Thanks for sharing this info!

  • Oh no…don’t do a spinoff unless Sam & Dean can be central. And please don’t make it about vampires–Hollywood is bleeding us to death! Don’t let my boys die a slow death b/c of a stinkin spinoff.

Sam and Dean need to focus on more intense storylines, and Castiel, Crowley and yes–Kevin (who needs to come back) need to get back into the grove of this angel/demon drama. Oh, and I could use a break from Metatrone. Keep Gadrell but get rid of Booger. He’s not believable anyhow.

  • I’m not especially looking forward to 9.20, as it’s likely going to be all about these new characters and barely about the Winchesters at all. An episode that’s really a pitch for a new show doesn’t seem particularly interesting to me.

  • THIS IS WHAT SCARES ME..EVERYTIME A GREAT SHOW GETS CHANGED IN ANY WAY IT ENDS UP GOING OFF THE AIR,THE FOCUS IS SAM AND DEAN NOW AND THATS WHAT UR FANS LIKE,LOOK AT CHARMED AS SOON AS THEY BROUGHT KELLIE AND HER SIS IN IT WAS NO LONGER BASED ON THE CHARMED ONE’S AND GOT CANCELLED.I COULD REMIND U OF SO MANY, SO PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE CHANGING OR TAKING THE LIME LIGHT OFF OF THE 2 WE CAME TO LUV AND CAN’T WAIT TO SEE. WHY MESS WITH PERFECTION?

  • Wow…people need to chill out! If you don’t wanna watch it don’t watch it! Supernatural will still be on, this is going to air alongside season 10 so it’s not like you’ll be stuck with one or the other! It’s already been said that episode 20 would be a kind of pilot for the spin off and set up the characters etc. && the creators of both shows have said since it’s all in the same world and will be set in the same time there’s plenty of room for character cross overs including the boys. But seriously….you all need to chill!

  • I THINK THIS PILOT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!! THEY ARE LEAVING ROOM FOR CHARACTER CROSS-OVERS TO HAPPEN AND SERIOUSLY I AM MISSNG ALOT OF THE CHARACTERS FROM THE PAST EPISODES AND I LOOK FORWARD TO NOT ONE BUT TWO GREAT SHOWS!!!! BUT SAM AND DEAN WILL ALWAYS BE MY SPECIAL BOYS!!!!

  • They already said Supernatural has another season planned people. This is awesome and they could have had a spin off of this show a bazillion ways by now. Just be grateful the Ghostfacers’ only was an online thing…

  • I been watching supernatural since day one. I am glad they are making a season 10. Hopefully they will keep going. But if they don’t I am glad I have a spin off called Bloodlines to watch.

  • Chicago huh? Ruled by mafia like monster families? with a mysterious main character whose in the center of it all. Why don’t we just give the Dersden Files the show it deserves rather than using it to fuel other urban fantasy ip’s.

  • I LOVE supernatural more than I can express. It is my hands down favorite show, but I have NO desire in watching this spin off. Sam & Dean are what MAKES the show. The characters are relationships in the show make it a million times better than anything, so this would basically be starting over with a vaguely similar concept.
