Anne Hathaway and Jimmy Fallon Put a Broadway Spin On Rap Songs
By Amy Ratcliffe on April 9, 2014
Jimmy Fallon’s brought a lot of personality to The Tonight Show, and the musical additions are my favorite. You never know what you’ll see, and to demonstrate that point, Fallon and guest Anne Hathaway teamed up last night for a Broadway style duet. They didn’t sing classic tunes like “Memory” or “The Surrey With The Fringe On Top,” though, they reinvented rap songs. Snoop Dogg has never sounded so smooth.
Hathaway and Fallon are ridiculously endearing and talented as they go through the medley. She has an amazing singing voice, and he tries to keep up with his fake piano playing (a member of the in house band pressed the keys). They tear through Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice,” 50 Cent’s “In Da Club,” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.” Hathaway owned the last song, as she belted the chorus and climbed on top of the piano. It all has a lounge singer vibe, reminscent of Richard Cheese.
