By Alicia Lutes on March 23, 2014
TWO WEEKS TO GO! That’s it, you guys — a mere fourteen days remain between you and the season four premiere of Game of Thrones. Are you ready? Can you hardly stand it? Has the anticipation for a new season of television ever felt this painful and exciting in equal measure? Tired of the rhetorical questions? That’s where our ravens from the Realm come in — bringing you the latest GoT news in one single, easy-to-digest post, because the night is dark and full of terrors and there’s no such thing as a non-news item when it comes to everyone’s favorite HBO fantasy series.
Featurette: Behind the Mixtape
For fans of the recent Game of Thrones mixtape — featuring the likes of Common, Big Boi, Daddy Yankee, and more — the correlations and universal themes dissected in both hip hop and the series may be obvious. For the rest of you, here’s a video explaining just that, featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the rappers in action. It’s fun!:
Featurette: Directing Season 4
Whether you’ve read the books or not, it likely hasn’t escaped you that the scope and scale of season four is going to be huge. Epic. Insane. Awesome. And the only way to get that right? Having a director who knows what the hell they’re doing. In this wee video, some of this season’s directors discuss the challenges and excitement that comes with creating such a rich and fantastical landscape:
Ominous, pulsating music. A pained-looking Cersei. Running Mance Rayder. Jon Snow declaring that the world has fallen apart. Some seriously badass-looking dragons (The VFX budget on this show must be IMPRESSIVE). “It’s coming.” This trailer is equal parts thrilling and terrifying (in a good way). Also now feels as good a time as any to say we’re ready to get more than a passing glance of those White Walkers. Aren’t you?:
Trailer: All Men
Starting off with images of a destroyed and snowed-in Red Keep (from Dany’s trip to the House of the Undying?) is one way to drive home the point that we’re in for even more changes and extreme situations. Heavy on the swordplay, the “all men” trailer is really driving home the point that, yeah, your favorite character is probably going to die soon if they haven’t already. George R.R. Martin, you’re the cruelest king of all!:
And just because it’s so cute, here are a couple of usurpers hanging out at the Iron Throne from the recent Game of Thrones fan event in Brooklyn:
