Holy VR Troopers, FACEBOOK Buys OCULUS RIFT Makers

Is liking your friend’s post on Facebook getting boring to you nowadays? Don’t even sweat it, because whatever Mark Zuckerberg sees when he straps on the Oculus Rift, it’s proven to be persuasive enough to warrant Facebook dropping $2 billion dollars to purchase the Irvine, California-based headset makers. Zuckerberg seems to have quite the ambitious plan for the Oculus Rift, and took to Facebook to convey his ideas on the future.

IMG_1793-625x416“Our mission is to make the world more open and connected. For the past few years, this has mostly meant building mobile apps that help you share with the people you care about. We have a lot more to do on mobile, but at this point we feel we’re in a position where we can start focusing on what platforms will come next to enable even more useful, entertaining and personal experiences,” wrote Zuckerberg.

And just when we thought the VR war couldn’t get anymore eventful, in comes Facebook with the megaton of megatons. Pre-orders for the Oculus Rift 2.0 dev kit went live last week during GDC for $350, and are available for purchase at this very moment. Looks like we’re one step closer to having those crazy sexual VR encounters from Demolition Man come to fruition. More on this as the details unravel.
