A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES May Become A Broadway Play
By Jake Kroeger on March 11, 2014
For the numerous failures to get a film adaption of John Kennedy Toole’s classic humor novel A Confederacy of Dunces off the ground, one might think that Toole’s words might just stay on the printed page and not be presented in any other form. The likes of Harold Ramis, Richard Pryor, John Belushi, John Candy, Chris Farley, John Waters, Will Ferrell, Steve Soderbergh, David Gordon Green, and Zach Galifianakis have all reportedly had their shots at trying to make A Confederacy of Dunces into a film, but just couldn’t get it done for various reasons.
But this bad luck streak may just end, as producers from Shelton Street Theatrical intend to make a live stage production of Dunces in hopes of bringing it to Broadway. There are no words as to who will play Ignatius, Myrna, or Irene, since casting is still to be determined.
As you probably know, A Confederacy of Dunces was published posthumously years after Toole committed suicide, which means that if this stage production actually makes good on its promise, Dunces will have come back from the dead twice, at least.
Aside from those previously attached — a pretty impressive list — to previous attempts at adapting Dunces, who would you want to see play Ignatius live?
