This Week at NerdMelt Showroom: Doug Benson, Meltdown Show Anniversary, HorrorShow, and more!
By Christian Spicer on October 25, 2013
Happy Halloween Week! Lots of awesome shows at the NerdMelt Showroom at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles, like Doug Benson and The Benson Interruption, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail‘s 3-year anniversary, HorrorShow, and more. Also, just a FYI, if a creepy voice ever calls you and asks you what your favorite scary movie is, always say, “it’s a tie between Gigli & The Godfather.” That way, you might confuse them just long enough to escape and get to the police station.
October 26th at 8pm it’s Set List: Standup Without A Net!
From the minds of Paul Provenza and Troy Conrad…Set List is back from sold-out shows at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, and a regular run in London. Top comics are given a never-before-seen “set list” of strange and outrageous topics the second they walk onstage, and perform seamlessly as if its the act they normally do, while the audience follows their list on the projection screen. Complete comedy in the moment.
Featuring the never-before-seen set lists of: Neal Brennan, Brendon Burns (visiting from the UK), Jake Johannsen, Kumail Nanjiani, Sean Patton, Heather Thomson, Matt Price, JJ Whitehead (also visiting from the UK),and a special guest! Hosted by Matt Kirshen!
$8 in advance, $10 at the door.
October 27th at 8pm it’s Harmontown!
What is Harmontown? It’s awesome. It’s unique. It’s one of a kind. It’s something only Dan Harmon (creator of Community and the upcoming Rick and Morty) and Jeff B. Davis (Whose Line is it Anyway) can do. It’s a different show every time and it’s every week. Lucky us! Playing Dungeons and Dragons? It’s happened. Dan Harmon freestyle rapping? Yup, that too. Calling Chevy Chase from stage? Happened…more than once. A celebrity guest? Allison Brie, Donald Glover, and Gillian Jacobs among others have all stopped in. Getting super personal with an intimate audience? Always. It’s Harmontown. It’s awesome. It’s unique. Don’t miss a single week.
October 28th at 7pm it’s The Nerdist Open Mic!
Come watch Kyle Clark and John Ungaro host this comedy free-for-all. You’ll see brand new comics, comics you know and love trying out new material (Chris Hardwick and Kumail Nanjiani are frequent drop ins), and the magic that is live comedy.
October 28th at 8pm it’s The Benson Interruption!
Join Doug Benson (Doug Loves Movies, Last Comic Standing) and some special surprise guests who don’t mind being interruptedwhile trying to tell their jokes.
Fun + awkward = fawkward!
October 30th at 8:30pm it’s The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail!
Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani helm the good ship Meltdown every single Wednesday, to host the show that’s been named one of the best live shows in LA by LA Weekly, Splitsider, and more. At The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, you’ll see some of the biggest comics, up and coming acts just before they get famous, and as always, surprise drop-ins that will knock your socks off.
Three years ago this week, The Meltdown was born as a weekly show in the back of a comic book store. Now it’s time to celebrate Halloween and our anniversary at the same time! We’ll have our show, plus cake, balloons, a weird photo opp, and more!
Audience: COME DRESSED AS A COMEDIAN AND BE PART OF THE SHOW!
Joining Jonah and Kumail on stage will be: Sean Patton, Brendon Burns, Barry Rothbart, Brent Morin, Pete Holmes… and a comic who’s never done the show before…
October 31st it’s HorrorShow!
