A First Look At Frank Darabont’s “Mob City”
By Perry Michael Simon on August 13, 2013
Interested in what Frank Darabont is up to now? Here’s TNT’s brand-new sneak peek trailer for the former The Walking Dead Executive Producer and The Shawshank Redemption director’s Mob City, the mini-series previously known as Lost Angels. The series, premiering December 4th at 10/9c, is based on John Buntin’s book “L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City,” and is obviously set in 1947 Los Angeles, with real-life characters like Police Chief William Parker (Neal McDonough), after whom our present-day police headquarters building is named; Bugsy Siegel (Ed Burns); and Mickey Cohen (Jeremy Luke). The story centers on the police task force designated to clean up the city, and you’ll recognize some The Walking Dead alumni, including Jeffrey DeMunn and Jon Bernthal, among the stars. Guns blaze, blood is shed. There’s not a lot of extended action here, just a lot of very quick cuts, but you can get the general tone.
So there’s some L.A. Confidential and Gangster Squad echoes here — really, it’s the same basic idea as the latter, right down to Mickey Cohen as a primary target of the squad — not to mention the game L.A. Noire, but Darabont’s track record bodes well for this one. Does the trailer have you wanting more? Give your thumbs-up-or-down in the comments right here.
