I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick

Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

You guys should look up a wrestler named Chris Daniels for TNA. He’s awesome and a huge nerd.
Okay, I have no problem with all the wrestlers – in fact, they’ve been very good episodes – … but why? Just curious how it came about that you wound up with such a string of them.
FUCK YEAH FOLEY!!!!!
Please keep this up,Guys! definatly need to bring a few more wrestlers to the podcast!
-Colt Cabana
-Christopher Daniels
-Johnny Gargano
-Gregory Iron
-Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan)
-Shane Helms
-Kofi Kingston
-Cody Rhodes
Just to name a few more that are also Comic Book/Stand Up Geeks
Awesome. You’re 2 for 2 when it comes to having wrestlers on and I don’t see any reason why Foley wouldn’t make it 3/3.
MICK IS THE MAN!!
he went to the Philippines and build schools for underprivileged children…
What esoteric discipline will the Nerdist podcast delve into next?
I predict bowling.
If you must know, and of course, you must, I listen when I eat lunch.
I agree with Mick’s suggestion to interview Edge. That guy is not only nerdy, but funny as hell too (the ‘Edge and Christian’ tag team was genuinely hilarious).
Haven’t listened to this one yet, but thought I’d mention that Foley also did a GREAT podcast with Kevin Smith and his wife, under Smith’s ‘Plus One’ podcast.
I’ll look forward to hearing this one too!
You MUST check out CHIKARA wrestling. It’s a combination of comic books, scifi, and lucha libre out of PA that is totally geared towards the “geek” community.
They got Stan Bush to do a concert at one of their shows where he did the Transformers movie soundtrack.
.
No good can come of this podcast.
.
Its only a matter of time before Rowdy Roddy Piper or the Iron Shiek get wind of Chris and Mick’s alliance and challenge them to a cage match at this years comic con!?!! Oh sure i’ll call in a few favors from my good buddies Jimmy “superfly” Snuka and Brutus Beefcake, but there’s only so many folding chairs for them to swing in Chris’ defense.
Peace & Beware my “Figure Four Leg Lock”!
3ToF, on the turnbuckle.
@OmegaAnimus: I prefer Kaiju Big Battel myself.
http://www.kaiju.com/home.htm
@3ToF: Don’t make me call in Nikolai Volkoff to bring the Russian Sickle and some code enforcement down on you, son.
Just make sure Santa doesn’t wear his Flair robe the way Flair does when he’s not around the ring. Just sayin’.
I assume this the glut of wrestlers is simply a matter of Chris having broken the seal when meeting CM Punk. It’s good to see that someone as smart and funny as Foley is finally on this podcast.
He’ll always be Dude Love to me.
Chris Hardwick: Your evolution follows what was a relatively nascent organization at that point.
Mick Foley: You know, I’ve written several New York Times best-sellers, but you’ve gotta run “nascent” by me.
Well played, Mr. Foley, well played.
I second the CHIKARA recommendation, as I just recently discovered it myself and can’t tear myself away from clips some nights. Ultramantis Black is amazing.
This was just lovely, thank you.
If you’re looking to branch out into having people from different sports on the podcast, Benson Henderson might be good to have on. He’s a huge comic book fan, although it might be hard to get him since he’s the current LW champ in the UFC.
Thank you for interviewing one of my favorite wrestlers, and as I learn more people. I’ve loved him for years and am glad more people get to find out how cool he is.
I think I love Mick Foley.
First of all, LOVE his suggestion for a RAINN PSA. He’s absolutely right to get men involved, not just to say “this is wrong,” but because rape is seen as a “woman’s issue,” getting guys talking and thinking about their role – like not covering for a friend or treating the abuse as if it were just a “guys being guys” thing – could really help.
As for joking about rape, his point seems to be HOW the subject is handled is very relevant. Cancer isn’t funny, but I’ve no doubt some cancer survivors have a few good zingers regarding their treatment or how weird people act around them when the C-word is uttered or some such thing. *I* had a medical concern last year that was pretty farking far from funny, but there were some moments – like getting treatment and realizing what a REALLY bad time to fart that could be – that were very funny. Hell, my sisters and I found humor when our dad died, like when my sister Kim was sitting on the john and thinking, “Dad, I hope you’re watching over me…BUT NOT RIGHT NOW!” She thought of that within less than twenty-four hours of his passing.
So, yeah, humor can be found anywhere, this issue is how do you approach it. Chris is right – don’t kick someone when they’re down. The rape humor I’ve seen work went after the assailant, not the victim.
Oh yeah CHIKARA or Kaijiu Big Battel and Nerdist is indeed a Marrige made in geek heaven!
I’m so far behind with both CHIKARA and Kaijiu
but yeah @OmegaAnimus Stan Bush does colaborate with CHIKARA every now and then,he wrote the theme for their first iPPV “High Noon” which was basicaly the theme from M.A.S.K but with lyrics about chikara and also he performed at King Of Trios 2011
I liked this episode. I like all the episodes, but three wrestlers and football player in two months seems like a shift in the shows focus. Please don’t shift to sports. I really need this podcast to get through the day.
“Nash-ent,” Chris? Nash-ent?!?
I’ve been waiting for Mick Foley to appear on WTF considering Foley had been on Marc Maron’s Air America show a few times. The infamous work on Maron’s producer is an instant classic.
This is an awesome scoop Nerdist though, CM Punk and now Mick Foley. Interestingly no Colt Cabana. Have a nice day!
I bet Matt Mira would love to have R. A. Dickey on. Major League Baseball player and Cy Young award winner who names his bats after Tolkien weapons.
I love Mick. I remember going to my first Comic-Con in Baltimore and standing between his booth and a booth for Tim Sale and just the overwelming happiness to be within walking distance of them and the collision of two very special worlds.
Mick’s right, Edge would be an awesome person to be on the podcast, he’s on Haven too. There’s so much to talk about, comics, movies/tv, his matches (TLC’s with the Hardy Boys and Dudley Boys).
Can we have Matt host a wrestling podcast on Nerdist? Just loved the sound of him marking out during this episode.
It took Mick Foley to have the realest, most sensible and sympathetic response to the concept of using rape as a punchline.
Thank you, Mick. You are an incredible person. I wish more entertainers–heck, more people in general–had a heart as big as yours.
Did Janet get as much attention on this podcast as Chloe does?
I’ve never watched wrestling, but once it occurred to me Mick is the guy who was always hilarious on Late Night with Conan (I forget if He’s been on the current Conan show) I was ecstatic, and BTW I didn’t know until just recently He is an active stand up comedian, I thought He was just a naturally funny dude, -pro wrestler, author, comedian. I doubt many have that resume…
Never been a wreestling fan and never will be but I have enjoyed all 3 wrestler podcasts much more than I thought I would. And I just have to say who knew Mick Foley was a Tori Amos fan like me and major props to him for his work with RAINN. I hope he inspires more “macho” guys to get involved with and support women’s issues.
-Nick
Top right hand corner of the page under the banner there’s a text box labeled SEARCH. It’s the one with the little magnifying glass icon.
Nerdist episodes 44 and 46.
Or was the purpose of making the comment to make some sort of petty point? Mind yours dude.
The TSA conversation reminded me of the “Chris Hardwick’s Celebrity Giant Dicks” gag from the G&S episode of ASCB.
I’m really enjoying the variety of entertainers you guys are having on the show these days. Not many people could convince me to listen to hour-long interviews with wrestlers and football players, but it’s great to be reminded that nerdery transcends professions.
glad i got caught up on podcast, foley mentioned phoenix show so i got tix during the rest of the show. funtimes for me and my kids flashbacks.
This is the second podcast i’ve heard with Mick Foley and I am more impressed with him each time. I was only into watching wrestling for about a minute in the 80′s, but I remember him from the old days. I love his outlook on life and his awesome personality. It’s also great to see someone with his influence and backround speaking out against being a di*k! I think you should run with the idea of finding people from all the tough guy sports and professions to talk about just being a cool dude. Just call it the “Don’t be a Di*k Series”
Chlodart.
Amazed to find out that Mick Foley knows the little known fact that Santa runs a Catering Business.
I do, it’s called “Santas BBQ”
Wrestling isn’t really my cup of tea, but about what he said about rape jokes:
Thank you, thank you, a thousand times thank you.
Maaaaan, don’t let Cloe “yoko” up this pod C.! KEEP THE BAND TOGETHER!
getting edge and christian would be great
