I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Holy cow, he’s a Black Bear! That really threw me for a second when he said he went to Maine. I’m a 2009 grad of UMaine.
Also, one of my favorite things about The Warriors that seemed to be Rockstar’s mandatory controversial concept was that you would use “flash” to heal yourself, which was clearly cocaine. Your character would put his face in his hands and then sniff loudly. Loved it!
Earthbound!!! I don’t want to oversell it, but Earthbound is probably the greatest game anyone has ever played in the history of the universe. That might be a BIT of an oversell, but I love that game! If anyone downloads a ROM and plays it on your computer (and you should, it’s fantastic) also seek out the PDF of the player’s guide, it’s a part of the experience. Brilliant game! Try it!
You guys also reference ChronoTrigger, the other greatest game ever! It’s time travel and Akira Toriyama characters, how do you beat that?
The rest of my favorite games: Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption, No More Heroes, Psychonauts, GTA 4, LOZ: A Link to the Past, Portal, Dead Rising 2, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, and most recently Borderlands 2.
I don’t mind a sequel, and I love funny and inventive game worlds!
Salt and Pepper is in the spice aisle…LOL
what a boring person.
annoying like a side character from american psycho.
no wonder he’s in the least watchable show HBO has ever broadcast.
go sell insurance somewhere, dude.
because you are not an artist or a comedian.
thank you for the freedom to comment.
otherwise, keep up the good work k & e.
david elliott.
Yup, you’re free to comment, and free to say scathing judgmental things about a dude you don’t know. Enjoy your freedom.
Does this mean I get to recommend an occupation for you?
Emily
I don’t know if you know this but there are roller derby leagues literally all over the world now. The most saturation is in the US but there are also leagues in the UK, Japan, Australia, even the United Arab Emirates has a bunch of girls trying to get something going right now. The number one roller derby league in the world is in New York. It’s not just places where people have nothing better to do. (I know you were just speaking for yourself, I just think folks don’t know how huge the sport has gotten!)
My abs hurt from laughing so hard talking about the adult sharting stories, especially the “open the valve” remark and the consequences of having done so..
I’m hyper-invested in Final Fantasy 1 for NES and the Gameboy Advance remake Dawn of Souls. I would estimate around 1000 hours minimum, perhaps 500 of which on a single save on the GBA version =)
Hey David, are you just trying to recruit?

Has anyone mentioned that Kumail and Emily should do a “Let’s Play…” for some random game and post it on YouTube? From start to finish, playing something neither has played before and talking about while they’re going. Once you have it setup that would be easy content. You could record multiple episodes at once and backlog it so you get a steady stream without needing to do it regularly. Just a thought I had while listening today…
More people need to know about Earthbound, that game is incredible. As a kid I loved the modern day setting, but when I went back to it I was blown away by the writing. The game was really silly and constantly broke the 4th wall. Great music too. A true classic!
Jon – that’s a great idea. I’d like to actually see them play a game like Skyrim/Arkham quality and hear there opinions as they discover it.
I actually stood up and clapped when he said Earthbound was his favorite game. I have so many memories of that game and playing it with my whole family as a kid even my parents loved playing that game.
Hey Kumail I know you’re an NBA fan just wanted to know who your fav team was? Is it the Bulls? If it is please don’t tell me you’re one of these guys that when the Bulls come to town you go to the games wearing a Jordan or Pippen jersey
Yes, count me as another vote for Earthbound. That and Harvest Moon were my absolute favorite games for SNES. Still play both of them on my emulator at least once a year all the way through. They never ever get old.
Well, apart from the one ridiculous comment (we thought it was a great episode – and Tim was fantastic), I’m liking a lot of the above discussion. First, if you guys can get a copy of Earthbound (dare I say “emulate?”), you REALLY need to give it a whirl. It’s the most silly, charming, and entertaining RPG I’ve ever played.
I also LOVE Jon’s suggestion re: a playthrough youtube show. And, well… I’m not gonna lie… if you did such a thing, I’d love to see you play Earthbound! Thanks for another great episode, you two. This is our favorite part of the week! <3
Count me as yet another who yelled, “yes!” when he mentioned Earthbound as his #1. My all-time fave.
Where can I find that Chrono Trigger / Jay Z mashup? This was the only one I found:
Mike, that’s the one we played! We found it here- http://kotaku.com/5972594/jay-z-meets-one-of-the-best-songs-from-chrono-trigger
I don’t know where you can download it though.
On the topic of rap/SNES mashups, and Earthbound, there’s a really good one that has Talib Kweli and Mos Def mashed up with the home music from Earthbound. Listen to it here https://soundcloud.com/teamteamwork/sets/super-nintendo-sega-genesis
Great work. Nice hearing Tim talk about games. I remember him finally hitting 1.0 in Black Ops 1, finally reaching his goal. Happy for his continued success, one of the nicest, funniest guys around. Chicago misses him.
This was such a good episode. This show is so good when you have someone on who is clearly into video games for real. Simons is by far the GGOAT (Greatest Guest of all Tims).
Definitely someone to invite back.
Hey guys, this was our first ep of The Indoor Kids and it’s turned out to be one of our favorite podcasts. We featured you as one of our top podcasts of the week, and talked about our favorite sleepover pranks. We’ll be featuring some clips from Weaponized Tiger on this coming ep, as well!
