This was a really interesting and engaging listen.
I remember when he first started showing up at the worst, shithole open mics in the valley. He would listen to the other comics (most, sometimes even myself, don’t) and he would study them, you could tell by the look on his face. He wasn’t there for an ego boost. He was there to learn. When someone has the clout to take shortcuts and not only doesn’t but also realizes that shortcuts in stand-up will do you no favors, you have to respect that.
