I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Hello Joker. Out of Arhkam again i see
Whoa! Early morning Nerdist podcast! Looking forward to this!
Gotta drop the neices off at school real quick. Can’t wait to listen to this!
Ever since I heard his voice as the hobgoblin (first thing I watched that he was in) I was a huge fan.
I think Mark Hamill is Über skilled and I am so happy you got him on the podcast. I’ve always thought of him as a guy you wanna sit down with. Well done Mr. Hardwick.
IT’S SKIPS!
Weird… but the episode just disappeared from the itunes podcast ap… it still plays here and some other places though.
This. This is how I wanted to start my Monday! Thank you!
Guess I better quit typing and start listening!
D@mnit….
Im DYING to listen to this podcast but my mean ole Uncle is making me go to the Toshi Station to pick up some power converters after i finish cleaning this friggin translation droid. One of these days he’s going to push me too far and i’ll pull off the perfect murder…ive already got it all planned: i’ll be out of town visiting my Uncle Ben and i’ll ensure the evidence is burnt up to make it look like the work of the empire. Then i’ll finally be free to run off with my sister…who’s a great kisser.
Peace .n. The Farce is Strong with this one.

No video excerpts on the BAFTA LA website as of today (at least for non-members), but there is an eight photo gallery.
Not sure if it is cool to post direct links in these comments, but from the BAFTA LA link above, choosing “Galleries” >> “2012 Events and Screenings” and then clicking to the second page will get you to the “Behind Closed Doors with Mark Hamill’ Gallery from 3-Oct-2012.
I really hope that for the Episode 7 Video Game they let him voice act Luke
Dammit, that was worth hanging out til the very end when he recounted his audition. Mark doing both Lucas and Ford was fucking hysterical…and dead on.
I never enjoy the live recordings. The audio quality isn’t as good, and the quality of conversation is just…different. I think conversation changes when you’re trying to entertain an audience in front of you.
@bcrall: thank you for sharing that. we’ll be sure never to have a live show again.
As someone who was named after Star Wars and loves the batman series I salute you Mark!
Keep up the amazing work!
Chris, I really feel that with all the contacts you now have in the SW universe, it’s becoming more apparent that it’s all just one giant transparent attempt to become best friends with Kenny Baker.
Apparently, you’re the only one who can’t see it.
I mean, really. Have you no shame?
.
@ChrisHardwick….FINALLY you listen to the voice of reason and the voice of the fans. @bcrall speaks for all of us. Im glad
you have chosen to do away with those annoying “live” shows. Of course that means from here on out you’ll be performing Dead Shows…..woo hoo! Zombie Chris, Vampire Jonah, and Undead Mira Live in Chicago!
Enjoy Your Brain-rito!
Peace .n. Aiming for the Head
3ToF.
Sweet! Mark mentions his wife, Marilou, is from Carmi, IL (Population 5,000-Salute!) My late step-father drove the horse and carriage in their wedding. And I grew up with her cousins.
Two rhetorical questions for Mr. Hamill : What are you trying to say ? and What is your point?.
This utterly made my day. Star Wars was one of the first films I was a fan of as a kid…
I knew that Mark had been working a lot outside the Hollywood machine the past 30 years, and the VO work I’ve heard from him has impressed me, but it was such a pleasure to really hear his war stories. Thank you for sharing this, Chris!!
Wow! That Harrison Ford impression was dead on!
@bcrall @Chris Hardwick: Well fuck, thanks for ruining this weekend shitbag!
And here I was going to lambaste the opening because it never sounds as bad as it’s built up (or torn down) to be. Instead you had to “curl one out” instead of keeping your hands, and thoughts, to yourself.
*sigh*
Uh, whoops. Forgot to load the sarcasm font….
Great Episode. I started listening on my iPhone but it disappeared from the iTunes store while I was streaming it. So glad to see it is here.
Hey, whoa, can we calm down? Nothing bcrall said was mean. It is true – the audio quality is effected by being live and the presence of an audience DOES change the tone of a conversation between two people. Saying he doesn’t enjoy live podcasts, well, it’s just an opinion! One opinion!
Seriously, let’s stop being butt hurt about these things, okay?
GOOD PODCAST TODAY, CHRIS HARDWICK
MARK HAMILL!!! I used to have a Luke Skywalker folder in junior high, and all the girls made so much fun of me. But my trapper keeper brought all the boys to the yard, hey-yo!
Thanks for this Mr. Hardwick!
Ahh..god I didn’t mean any disrespect by that comment @Chris Hardwick. Seriously..
I just REALLY enjoy the more intimate studio conversations versus the live shows…i feel like a jerk. The first time i write a comment on here after listening for a year, and I get called out on it.
Anyway,
I really do apologize Chris and everyone else.
@heather — thank you for standing up for me!! You really understood what I was trying to say. I didn’t have any bad intentions, and I probably could’ve worded things differently. I just wanted to share my feelings on which format i prefer.
@chris hardwick
I love this podcast.
I moved to a new town a year ago to start a new job — zero friends..didn’t know anybody. During my hour long round trip commute I’d listen to your podcast and it was like listening in on a conversation with a bunch of friends. It kept me from going into crazy lonely depression mode.
Great interview, wish it wasn’t constrained by the short ‘live’ window (love the live shows, just not the enforced time-limits they sometimes have). For some reason, this entire episode left me with a craving for pie.
No need to be so touchy, Hardwick.
@bcrall & @Klinger: Aw I wasn’t being touchy. It’s a snarky way to respond to an un-actionable comment. If someone simply says, “I don’t like this, the end,” there’s literally nothing that can be done about it. I enjoy answering it like there was something I COULD do. Just mild ball-busting, nothing more. No worries!
@Everyone commenting: Godammit I love you all! So much nerd sass. This is why we’re ruling the world now! @ chris hardwick thank you for making a home for us all to bicker, love, and share like a good family does. Cheers!
I hate that this had to end.
Chris, if you haven’t finished Arkham City…look up Joker singing Only You on YouTube. That would have been a sweet thing to ask Mark Hamill about, how he prepared for and performed the now definitive version of that song.
I don’t think that this was a bad interview at all. Yes the audio quality wasn’t the greatest(but seriously….it is a free podcast) but the conversation was engaging and I learned a lot about Mark Hamill that I didn’t know about. I like learning about all the behind the scenes in the animation industry because I never been a part of that field professional. So its fun to learn and understand the process especially being an aspiring artist that makes okay drawings animations…sometimes….(hopefully that will change this year since I am going to try to draw and animate everyday for one year starting tomorrow on my birthday)…
This was a joy. I could listen to Mark speak forever.
Great interview, Chris!
StuartB; thanks for this. i sent it to my brother who is a huge Hamill as Joker Fan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4yZ6P4tEIY
@bcrall; i’ve lived where i am my whole life and still don’t
have friends to socialize with. everyone got married and has kids so they fall off the face of the earth. i too am glad for this podcast. it helps me feel less alone. my very great thanks to Hardwick, Jonah and Matt.
No Pi song opening?
.
ok.
.
we nerdists are throwing our hearts on our sleeves and i’ll jump in.
.
I lost the closest friend in my universe a few years ago around the time i discovered this podcast. Being able to listen to Chris, Matt, and Jonah speak about the stuff me n my bud talked about endlessly helped…helped alot. The talkback community on this site, filled with classy folks, helps as well. This thread is only further proof of it. Y’all are rock stars…every gosh darn one of you.
.
Peace .n. In the land of the ignorant, the arrogant, the pessimists, the @ssholes, the jerks, the jocks, the haters, the agrivators, the bullies, the trolls, and the downright meanies….we nerdists stand tall…and no matter how alone life may seem..we are NEVER alone….for we are a community who see’s things where others dont…who appreciates things that others wont…who loves life n loves what we love with obsessive passion….we are together in this…and we always will be.
Three Toes of Fury. One of you. One of US.
@ThreeToesFury
Very well said!!! I feel like this is one of the very few communities on the internet where courtesy and respect still reside. It’s as refreshing as a cold beer on a hot day.
Cheers!
Most surprising Mark Hamill VO discovery for me was:
Firelord Ozai from Avatar: the Last Airbender.
If there were no more live shows…..I can’t even ponder such a thing. I think you could say that I’m a bit of a fan of the live experience.
But if it is the studio experience you crave or you just want MAOR MARK HAMILL, he did an interview with the totally wonderfully awesome Rob Paulsen on Talkin Toons! (A delightfully fantastic podcast that has many interviews with brilliant and talented voice over actors!!!!!!) http://robpaulsenlive.com/episode-39-guest-mark-hamill/

3ToF: STANDING OVATION
.awww shucks…thanks brotha!
And back atcha, my Mandroid musing modern minstrel of multitasking, merriment, maneuvering megabits, monitoring meltdown, and mechanizing malevolent marsupial mammals (hrmm..things got weird toward the end there…).
Peace & “We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams”
misty eyed 3ToF.
I really wish I could listen to this one, but it’s s absent from itunes app.
It’s interesting to note that shortly after this was recorded, news broke of Disney buying Lucasfilm and announcing new Star Wars films in the works.
….those films will probably mean that Hamill will end up revisiting his Skywalker role. Bet he didn’t expect that.
Yeah iTunes pulled the slip on me as well. Luckily I could stream it here. Otherwise I would have had one of the most disappointing train rides ever.
Thanks brajymandias!
Just realized I’m listening to this wearing my SW shirt I got from meltdown.
Whooooaaaaa! Nerception!
If you guys are craving more mark hamill he did a killer 2 part 3+ hours on smodcasts fatman on batman and they talk about everything not just batman related and it’s mind blowing! I can’t listen to this one because it keeps telling me the “media file may be damaged” even when I delete and redownload
His Big Pop Fun interview was great; I”m looking forward to listening.
That was the greatest hour and a half on this website ever!!!
