I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

I was going to sit on this Podcast for a while, because I really haven’t watched wrestling since I was a kid. I figured he was going to be a dorky wrestling grrrr type character, I must say I could not have been more wrong!!!! He was awesome! Neat guy, great attitude, represented himself well! You did a great job interviewing him. While I won’t become a fan of wrestling again, I must say I would enjoy the opportunity to hear him again. I love when my expectations are either wrong and/or exceeded!! Well done to all!!! Keep up the good work
Listen Close most of @CMpunk ‘s answers have Double “shoot” meanings….dam hes good
@yourmama You can subscribe to the Nerdist Podcast via iTunes or you can put the RSS feed in your favorite RSS reader or you can hit play and play it in the browser. I hope that helps?
Something to keep in mind: time is incredible limited. You can’t consume all the cool stuff that is out there to consume. So there are times you have to skip things. But I will say that you can save even more time by not announcing it to the world. Moral of the story: don’t get on people’s cases for not having seen/read/listened to the latest thing you might be into. Also don’t proudly announce that you won’t listen/watch/read/etc something because you think it won’t be cool.
This was yet another fun episode!
bret the hitman hart
I haven’t watched wrestling since I was a kid and was pleasantly surprised by this episode. I didn’t anticipate hating it or anything like that but really liked this episode.
Yeah……u can download all the talking dead episodes at one of the many torrent sites
Punk should have a nerdist podcast! I know he’s incredibly busy but I found his take on comics, movies, tv, and wrestling to be very interesting and funny, and if he’s going to write for Marvel in the future (again, since he wrote an intro for the A vs X book) it would be a great podcast.
I might have thought this ‘Cast wasn’t for me and skipped it if I hadn’t already seen Punk on ‘Talking Dead’. He’s much more than ‘Just a wrestler’. Interesting, Intelligent and hilarious as well. Great ep for the Talking Dead interview as well as this ‘Cast. Great discussion.
@bytewrite
Punk is one of those guys who made it to the top because wrestling is far more about charisma than in-ring ability. He’s a great wrestler to be sure, but he has amazing mic skills, which is more important than anything. He could really be doing anything entertainment/media related if he wanted, so I don’t expect him to fade out, even after his body is no longer fit to wrestle. If he doesn’t become a regular wrestling commentator one day, he’ll be doing something else in entertainment, I’m sure.
How come there is no link to the podcast? I want to listen to it. Punk is a great interview, and despite him being a “heel” (bad guy), I always find myself cheering for him. He’s the best in the world!
Last summer, Bill Simmons did a great podcast with him on Grantland.com
It gives me a warm fuzzy inside that CM Punk is also outraged over the incorrect usage of you’re/your.
Speaking of warm fuzzy, what was the name of those pajamas mentioned on the podcast? Thanks in advance.

MLO, your write! Lol. I’m the same way (former newspaper editor).

Does this mean we will see a WWE team on the next season of All-Star Celebrity Bowling?
@Drakeo YES!
nerdist, please help to add wrestling as a pillar of nerd-dom alongside comics, fantasy. video games, etc.! for these reasons:
1) a single FANTASY UNIVERSE/CONTINUITY made of every company/wrestler since the beginning of wrestling.
2) costumed heroes and villains with expert/superhuman/supernatural (Papa Shango) abilities that exchange goofy dialogue before, during and after action-packed and usually inconclusive fistfights.
3) it’s meta.
4) not only can you troll fans and creators, you can troll the CHARACTERS! imagine being able to tweet spider-man that he’s boring.
5) there’s a new issue like 5 times a week.
6) the writers adjust the characters and character emphasis issue by issue based on fan response. so like, if infinite crisis dropped superboy by like, issue 3.
basically, wrestling is comics, with a more fascinating interaction with reality. we are literally part of the universe. and honestly, wrestling and comics are ever good or bad for exactly the same reasons.

colt cabana has a great wrestling podcast that would be a PERFECT addition to nerdist.
pleeeeease i need more nerds to follow wrestling, so i can have a gd convo about it with anyone, i feel like i’m taking crazy pills.
Please, put CM Punk, Grammar Nazi on as a show on youtube!!!!
‘Grammar Slammar’?
I love when you have nerdy athletes on! I never know of them and its awesome to hear about things from their perspective! You rock!
As not only a nerd and a wrestling fan (or a wresting nerd, if you will), but also a massive CM Punk fan, This may be my favorite nerdist podcast. It’s certainly up there at any rate.
I really need to catch up some of the ones I missed soon though. Maybe it would be a good thing to put on while working on art, like I did tonight.
Thanks for a great show.
Whats a kingaroome that Chris said he got from japanese town in LA? Tried to google it but couldn’t find it. Thanks.
At the end of the podcast Chris and Punk theorize that people might pass over this podcast because of the guest, and that we all need to be more open minded. True, that’s part of the equation.
The other factor is that there is just so much content out there. Nerdist podcast puts out three episodes a week, and has many spinoffs. I only have a twenty minute commute to listen, plus other podcasts, and at home my DVR is full and streaming is calling.
Don’t write everyone off so easily; you might be doing too good a job and be flooding the market. I CAN ONLY LISTEN TO SO MUCH!
Didn’t know Chris Hardwick was from Memphis. Famous nerd in my city. Awesome
Thank you nerdist for this Christmas gift to me. After 8 years, my nephew and CM Punk are the reason I am a wrestling fan again. When I found out Punk was going to be on Talking dead I was pretty excited (and I barely watch Walking Dead). So I had hope that Mr. Hardwick would get punk on the podcast. You did not let me down good sir.
this is the moment, i was lucky enough to catch, that i got back into wrestling. the pipe bomb: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OS9wZGb_3g
Just listened to the podcast and I have to say I loved every minute of it it was like a conversation my mates would have
What a nice guy, Dont watch wrestling, but super nice intelligent guy, I try not to prejudge and this time it worked out !
I will admit, I almost passed over this one because I don’t know anything about wrestling, so it was ironic that you guys talked about that! But if I learned anything from giving Liam Lynch and Steve Jones a listen, it’s that the unknown ones are the ones that I like a lot! And this one was no exception.
(I would also like to add that I googled kangaroomie, for like an hour, before I looked here and saw the kigurumi)
As a distance runner, I listen to a lot of podcasts. I thoroughly enjoy nerdist as a break from sportstalk radio and ESPN podcasts. I am sorta a sports junkie, but also dig super hero movies, comic books, standup comedy and even a little WWE. I was was quite pumped to see CM Punk as a guest, because it brought together two worlds in a podcast. It was great to have an interview who DID NOT ask a bunch of wrestling questions, but talked with him as just a person. You should consider having athletes on from time to time that you are not familiar with because you ask questions about different subjects and topics. Whenever ESPN interviews athletes or WWE spotlights wrestlers they ask the same questions again and again. Your take was very refreshing. Thanks Chris!

I’ve been a CM Punk fan since he stepped foot in the WWE and i’m looking forward and seeing WWE Champion CM Punk do his own podcast and a tv series someday and thanks for this wonderful podcast CM Punk and Chris pipe bomb

Like Chris Hardwick, “sports” are not in my universe. I don’t watch wrestling and never have. If I wasn’t such a Nerdist junkie; mainlining every podcast released, I may have skipped it. I didn’t regret it.. CM Punk put the smack in the Smack Down on my ears.
What @domdoesdesign said. The king of the mountain shouldn’t concern himself so with some plebeians’ nose-thumbing. Or at the very least NOT let the trolls know they got to him since that’s exactly what the trolls want. They’re like naughty children who are being naughty on purpose to get Daddy’s attention while the well-behaved kids are ignored and standing off to one side thinking, “WTF is this shiat?”
@ Suzanne – Would LOVE to see a CM Punk grammar YouTube show as well. Maybe he could record a few episodes in front of a green screen and made to look like he’s pile-driving an apostrophe or some such thing.
for newbies intrigued by punk, here’s the recent acclaimed, heartfelt and sobering feature-length doc about his amazing career, on instant: http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/WWE_CM_Punk_Best_in_the_World/70263331?trkid=8169564

Thanks for the Walking Dead spoilers. I thought you were going to talk about the tv show (which I’ve seen) not the comic book (which I haven’t read).
Sincerely, Bill Cosby.
I’m a wrestling fan, CM Punk fan, and Nerdist fan – loved this ep!
