I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

BEST IN THE WORLD
Hey Chris you should check out a wrestler named Christoper Daniels, he’s awesome, lives in L.A I think and super nerdy. He wrestled at comic con dressed as Magneto and was actually drawn into the Dr. Who comic as a villain. I’d love to hear you matt and jonah talk to him.
Lol. Love the WWE CANNOT WAIT
FYI here is a site that has a Talking Dead episodes
http://www.icefilms.info/tv/series/4/3464
~We’re currently working on a site for the the comic, the show, and the always amazing chaser to the walking dead, the talking dead. I have the shows and it’s all setup….just waiting for a response back from our fearless leader if it would be okay to post The Talking Dead episodes.~
You sirs are gentlemen and scholars.
*insert witty comment here.
This was a fantastic episode. The chemistry between you two was awesome, and anytime you can make Dolemite/Chewbacca comparison can only mean good things.
When Nerd Worlds Collide…
Loved Punk, always knew he’d be a good fit with Chris and this podcast. Jonah needs to get him on Jonah Raydio so they can talk punk and straight edge.
At it’s best. pro wrestling is a thrilling spectacle of colorful, larger than life characters and amazing athleticism. At it’s worst, it’ s misogynist, homophobic, nonsensical, and insulting to the intelligence. You watch an episode and see something so incredibly dumb that you don’t understand why you still bother to watch. And then on June 27, 2011 CM Punk sits cross legged at the top of the entrance ramp on Monday Night Raw, and with one riveting speech that blurred the lines between fiction and reality he turns the entire wrestling world on its ear. Then you realize, “Oh yeah, THAT’S why I still watch this stuff. Moments like THIS”. That speech (find it on YouTube), the build up to the subsequent championship match between Punk and John Cena, and the match itself in front of an INSANE crowd in Punk’s hometown of Chicago are everything that’s right about wrestling. CM Punk: BEST IN THE WORLD. And he’s one of US.
This was one of my favorite episodes of the Nerdist ever. The chemistry between CM Punk and Chris just put a smile on my face! I would love for you to have Punk back on in he future, because this conversation was a LOT of fun.
YAYAYA!!! Great episode. Totally don’t watch wrestling anymore but I’m on board with Punk as a totally awesome entertainer. Loved him on Talking Dead! If you’re ever unable to do the show, I think he and Yvette would be more than qualified to handle things for you.
Team Nerdist VS Team WWE in celebrity bowling!
Crust Punks pretty much fill Seattle Center at Folk Life. Some are cool, but most are INSANELY irritating and look like rejects from Peter Pan’s Lost Boys. Even at 24 years old I look at them and think “stupid fuckin’ teenagers”.
Real Genius shirts?!?! BAH! I want one!
(I had Pete Holmes sign my VHS copy of Real Genius because he is the giant lesbian Val Kilmer and Real Genius is one of my fave Val movies)
@Curtis
Another Nerdist fan from Seattle? Awesome. What is your podcast incidentally?
If you like the kigurumi, you might check out my friends’ shop, bunnywarez.com
They’re out of Oakland and make damn fine onesies and stuff.
Yeah Christopher Daniels would be a great choice as well. Check out the picture of him dressed as Homer Simpson one Halloween. Great episode Chris. I don’t usually listen to the podcast, but a chance to hear Punk talk outside the ring is always great.
I hope the next wrestler on the Nerdist Podcast will be Daniel Bryan
Best in the World.
Great episode! Cm punk is why I watch wrestling. Whether heel or face, he is the most entertaining wrestler. Nerdist is why I love comedy. Makes me proud of my inner nerd. Awesome combination. Future tag team?
Aw hell yeah! Best in the world!
Chris, you wasted way too much time talking about how mad everyone is going to be at you for various dumb reasons. I’m not mad, I’m disappointed. Stop it. Be Yonce.
BE FUCKING YONCE, CHRIS. JESUS BOWLING CHRIST. GET IT RIGHT.
Hopefully you get to have Punk on the show again when Matt and Jonah are nearby, that would make for fun times.
YES!!!!! I’ve been waiting for this episode to finally happen!!
Now Chris PLEASE GET COLT CABANA ON YOUR PODCAST!!!!
#CabanaNerdist
Great interview. I’ve heard Punk on several radio shows and it’s always the same questions and answers. You allowed Punk to ‘breathe’ in this interview and speak his mind more than usual. Thanks for the good work!
Awesome Podcast, probably the first I’ve listened to all the way through in some time. Looking forward to more content!
I totally was with Chris in my baseless assumptions about CM Punk. Saw him on The Talling Dead and was pleasantly surprised. Needless to say this podcast blew me away and was glad I didn’t skip it. Thanks for shaming me out of my comfort zone about not listening to thing I normally wouldn’t. AND thanks for making third shift work bearable!
In my opinion, when Chris dispatches with the funny voices and constant one-liners, he is the best interviewer in the business. This wonderful episode yet another example.
I’ve been a wrestling fan for 25 years,I’m 34 years old,a massive CM Punk fan and I thought it was absolutely awesome that this podcast wasn’t centered around wrestling. It was so much cooler to hear Punk talk about his life and interests outside of pro wrestling. I’ve watched his DVD and so many of his matches from IWA Midsouth, Ring Of Honor, TNA and WWE so I’m pretty well versed with the character of CM Punk and that characters evolution. I really enjoyed hearing him sit down and talk with Chris as a regular guy and the fact that Chris knew next to nothing about pro wrestling is what made that interview possible. Cheers guys, great job.
Great episode Chris! As yet another member of the Venn Diagram overlap between Nerdist listeners and wrestling fans I found nothing lacking in this podcast whatsoever. Punk talks about his knee surgery, what he likes about being a heel, opinions on comic books, even some of his more whimsical tattoos, basically everything I would hope to hear about in a conversation with the man.
CM Punk’s championship run on Raw, the famous sit down promo, and the Punk wants to walk out angle were big reasons I came back to watching wrestling this past year, after a few years of not tuning in. But these events and Punk’s career are already well chronicled in the “Best In The World” DVD and on Youtube. Talking about your shared interests with Punk, and what makes him one of us, in an actual conversation, elevates the podcast beyond just being a simple interview. I wouldn’t expect any less.
However, if Punk ever gets a Kigurumi on Raw, I may injure myself laughing. I will blame you for that!
Great job Chris! Didn’t know if you’d get Punk on, but this is by far my favorite guest of yours over the past 2+ years.
Comic Books and Pro Wrestling = My two biggest passions
Chris,Jonah and Matt should definatly go to either a PWG or CHIKARA show someday!
Hi Chris – I am so glad to have been wrong. I was a little prejudiced becase it’s a wrestler and I was expecting a dopey thug. I was so wrong. Thanks dude!! – Oh and now my girlfriend wats a kagarumi. Also thanks
I’ve found that the episodes of people I didn’t know before/didn’t have a high opinion of are usually the best ones. I go into it either apethetic or, worse, antagonistic and set my expectations low. Thankfully, I’m generally proven wrong and it changes my entire outlook on that person. So, following your advice, I’m glad I “consume first and then judge.” I’ve found some really cool stuff that way.
He is not best in World
My imaginary boyfriend!
I’m not a wrestling fan so I wasn’t sure what I would think of this episode but I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised. I now see wrestlers in a completely different light and it’s cool to learn that they also geek out on The Walking Dead and have mixed feelings about Disney acquisition of Star Wars (just like the rest of us little people). And I can’t agree more that there has got to be a way to do a great Punisher movie, based on this interview I think I’d trust that in CM Punk’s hands.
MAKE THERE BE CM PUNK GRAMMAR YOUTUBE ZOMG! I don’t watch WWE–just not my bag–but I WOULD WATCH CM PUNK YOUTUBE GRAMMAR CORRECTIONS WITH ALL OF MY EYEBALLS AND MAYBE MORE. Ahem. I mean, I could find that to be delightful.
Wait the Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels was in a Doctor Who comic? WHERE CAN I FIND THIS COMIC?!
Yes, Daniels needs to be on the Podcast as well.
And awesome Podcast.
A suggestion for future PodCast guests: Redskins QB Robert Griffin III.
Great Job Chris! Loved this episode. Please never feel that topics like punk and straight edge are too esoteric for your audience, many of us live those lifestyles!!!!
As a huge Nerdist AND WWE fan, I loved this. Thank you both and thank you Chris for showing The Best in the World, the Respect he deserves!
so how do I download this?
Listened to the entire episode today, and I have NO COMPLAINTS AT ALL!! I’m from Chicago, and have been a fan of Punk’s since his days w/ IWA Mid-South. The fact that he loves comics, GI Joe, punk rock is what made me a devout fan. I wasn’t expected anything about wrestling in this podcast(that’s what his buddy’s, Colt Cabana, podcast is for(The Art of Wrestling with Colt Cabana)). I wanted to hear you two talk about nerdy things, and that’s exactly what I got. Thank you for this wonderful episode, and it was great to see you perform at Zanie’s in Rosemont Saturday night.
This definitely one of my favorites, not just because I am a CM Punk fan but it just seemed like you guys could be best friends if you wanted to be and that makes for a great podcast.
excellent podcast. glad you had punk on the show, chris
