“StarTalk” with Alan Rickman

This week on the Nerdist Channel’s StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson, Alan Rickman is Dr. Tyson’s guest, and, yes, this is one that, I believe, hasn’t been released before now on the radio/podcast version. So here it is, one of your favorite actors chatting with your favorite astrophysicist.

  • I am no rocket surgeon but, didn’t you mean to say that 24 people went to another destination? I know 14 wanted to land on it, and only 12 did. But 24 went to the moon.

  • Wow. Love Rickman’s body of work(I highly recommend seeing him & Hugh Grant–for once _not_ playing a diffident, stammering romantic lead–in “An Awfully Big Adventure”, or just him in “Truly, Madly, Deeply”, “Nobel Son”, “January Man”, “Judas Kiss” & “Blow Dry”–& he’s wasted as the only entertaining thing in “Robin Hood: Prince of Dweebs”), but it couldn’t have been more obvious that he didn’t want to really talk science. The closest he got was more airy-fairy New Age metaphysics than science. Not surprising, as he only went to RADA finally at 26, after running his own graphic design shop for several years.

  • Oh Neil if you meant left Earth’s gravity 24 is the correct number, Apollo numbers 8, 11,12,13,14,15,16,17. If you meant truly left Earth’s gravity’s influence then the number is 0. If you meant left Earth’s atmosphere then the number is much higher.
