“StarTalk” Lifts Off
by Perry Michael Simon on November 1, 2012
And so, Neil deGrasse Tyson brings his StarTalk radio show to the Nerdist Channel. We don’t need to explain why this is monumental, do we? This week, astronaut Mike Massimino joins Dr. Tyson, John Hodgman, Eugene Mirman, and Kristen Schaal on the debut episode.

So funny! Loved every minute of it! John Hodgman was hilarious!
Hilarious!
That was awesome! I wish I had gone into aerospace physics instead of a math based degree designed for business.
This is really exciting! I listen to Star Talk all the time.
What was wrong with the old incarnation of the show?
@layla I don’t the two versions are mutually exclusive. In fact, I am pretty sure you can still subscribe to the podcast feed for the audio version. This way, you can see all these cool people.
Honestly, my favorite part is when Neil stands up and explains something like Lagrangian points. It is significantly cooler in a visual format. You get to see the nerd glint in Neil’s eyes and that makes it great.
Star Talk is a great addition to the channel! Nice get, Team Nerdist!
Star Talk is great as a podcast, now only better. Thanks!
@ Everyone reading this,
Just heard on ‘Writer’s Almanac’ on NPR earlier that today’s the birthday of the late great Carl Sagan. They also mentioned that the original ‘Cosmos’ was the most popular ‘science’ program in TV history.

I know it’s a ways off, but I’m looking forward to the re-boot of ‘Cosmos’ Mr. Tyson said he’s working on. Even if it is set to air on “Fox”, I can’t get enough of nerdy programs like that. But, if anyone could pull it off, I’m willing to bet Neil deGrasse Tyson is just the person to do it.
NDT’s passion forces him to rise and become so animated to tell the story which always reminds me of Sagan in Cosmos. NDT is always to the point, blunt and amusing. And with Eugene Irman, I’m sold. Totally crush material.
Congrats Nerdist. Science!!
