Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

episode was great, big ZB fan. BTW Chris’s response to charles up ^ was fantastic… and what sort of douche nozzle goes to someones site to slam them?! What a cuntwrapsupreme! Leave this page alone unless you like it for gods sake let us enjoy it

I’m a HUGE fan of Zach Braff. Loved this interview. Also.. I’ve listened to the Garden State sound track probably more than any one person should.
Thank you Chris, Jonah, and Matt for this!
big fan. i too have listened to the GS soundtrack oodles upon oodles. ‘he’s just a fast food knight’ is still one of my fav movie quotes. thanks for this Nerdists.
Surprise Reddit conversation while browsing reddit, very Meta.
The Harry Potter store they mention is called “Whimsic Alley.” They’re always vendors at the HP conferences and are super awesome humans.
God Dam Tom Hanks
Fuckin hippogriff has fuckin papers.
Great episode! I had to make notes of what I wanted to comment on because there was so much interesting and awesome going on.
First of all, I have to say that Garden State is my favorite movie as far as a movie obsessed person like me can have a favorite movie. I love it so much. I love that it’s whimsical but the emotion just feels so real throughout. I come back to it a lot during difficult times in my life because it helps unlock my feelings for some reason, sappy as that may sound.
Anyway…
Misfits and Whimsic Alley getting shout outs=awesome.
Reddit being a friendly place…wow, that shocked me. Maybe it’s because I’m a girl or maybe I’ve just been visiting the wrong parts but I have found it very, very hostile. Glad that some people are getting a lot from it.
As far s youtube goes, I completely get why it sometimes screws artists or creators over. However, it IS how people are discovering new music these days apart from tv shows like Zach mentioned. You listen to one song and there is an entire row of suggestions off to the side. You can spend hours discovering one band you’ve never heard of after another. I’ve bought so much music that I discovered that way. I think like anything it can be and is abused but personally I think it’s doing more to benefit the bands than hurt them.
Also, I’m glad Zach defended Taylor Swift. It’s totally understandable that someone would dislike her music but you have to give the girl credit. It is not easy to write the perfect pop song and she’s been doing it over and over since the age of 14.
I hope Zach comes back often!
The Pink Floyd album that goes with Oz is Dark Side of the Moon no The Wall
I just finished listening to this episode and it was great. You guys should totally take Zach’s offer on that Oz podcast. It would make a great 2 hours podcast special. Food for thought.
They have a all twilight store in Portland Oregon, which is where the movies were shot
I like the information that Zach said about asking the actors if the lines in a script feel strange to them, and what would they say instead. That’s such great advice. It’s too bad George Lucas didn’t have that advice before he filmed Star Wars I, II, and III, because the lines were really strange hearing them. Otherwise, great interview!
The Shins song from the Garden State sound track was from the Oh Inverted World lp. However the movie came out closer to Chutes Too Narrow.
If ever an occasional 4th chair could be added ZB has to be it! Great episode. As a fan of bot Nerdist and Zack Braff if was great to have those worlds collide.
