I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Happy birthday, Dude!
Happy Birthday Chris, any chance of a doctor who themed party? (since you share your birthday with the series)
So, I’m assuming that this was recorded some time ago, since you described the current weather in Denver as “temperate”. LOL
Loved this interview guys. Thanks!
Yessss
(12 minutes in) Is this another shy Jonah episode? I don’t think I’ve heard him at all yet.
Turns out I’m an idiot.
Couple of things…
1. Happy Birthday, Fearless Leader! One more year and you’ll be the answer to life, the universe and everything. Tell you what, I’m going on the air again at 9:30pm EST – I’ll play something by Tom Lehrer and maybe some Siouxsie and the Banshees for you.
2. Soooo…Mel Brooks on Monday then? Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with sugar on top?
3. Is there a Nerdist wiki page somewhere, because I’ve a new edition to the drinking game. Take a sip every time Chloe snort-chuckles. I count four, so get chugging.
4. Have heard for years that shows such as “Dallas” and “Dynasty” were big in Europe, which made me worry what sort of impression folks on the other side of the Atlantic got of Americans. No, were’ not all rich assholes, some of us are poor assholes.
5. Loved the way one of The Hives pronounced “penis.”
6. The Dead Boys shout out made me SO happy! Hurray for some nice Cleveland boys!
Dear Chris,
Happy Freakin’ Birthday, Dude!
Nice cameo appearance on The Soup this week!
“Dick Dynasty.” HAA! That could TOTALLY be a show.
Speaking of the TV show “Dallas,” Larry Hagman (J.R.) just passed away.

Happy Birthday, Herr Hardwick!
BTW, I love your fashion sense. Particularly, your slippers.
Oh, and for future “Real Genius” stuff, check here: http://founditemclothing.com
I got the Summer Games ’84 and Crossbow Project shirts.
hope you had a great birthday…great intervju with the pride & joy of Sweden
Long time listener, first time poster. So glad to see THE NERDIST + THE HIVES come together!!! Thank you so much, Chris! When they released their album “Lex Hives” 5 months ago I wondered if they would ever go on this podcast and I said no they wouldn’t, but you have proved me wrong yet again. I have met Pelle and Vigilante both super awesome guys and always stay to greet all their fans after the show. If you ever get the chance to see them live…DO IT! They put on the most energetic concert you will ever witness! They only release a new album every 5 years but they never disappoint. Hope to see them once more in 2013 before they disappear back to Hive Manor.
Really great interview and guest.
It oddly seems like quite a few of the musicians I’m listening to lately are out of Sweden. The Tallest Man On Earth is great and probably some of my favorite music to come out of anywhere in the past few years. Maybe it’s just interesting how someone from a significantly different culture is affected by the music of someone like Bob Dylan.
Future guest? Eh? Eh?
Anyway, great episode.
Time to take the podcast to Sweden, Chris. Henry Rollins has been coming here for years. It’s time for the LA Podcast scene to start stopping by and Nerdist will have no problem setting up a show.
@Chris Hardwick – What Matt just said. I strongly recommend Team Nerdist barnstorms Europe, maybe visiting small venues AND allowing everyone on the podcast to finally see some countries they’ve never visited. I happen to have it on good authority there’s yet another person named Matt who would be quite happy if you were to visit Hamburg, Germany.
I can’t be the only one who pictured the kid with the morphing accent from Home Movies whenever Pelle or Vigilante spoke. Made a great accent awesome.
t seems like guys think that country is only Shania Twain and that shit. When in fact, there are bands that are, at least in one part, country, and are still much more rock than The Hives. Which is not to say The Hives are not cool, I like them and it was a good episode, it just disappointed me a bit…
Habba Burdugh Griz!
HI GUYS, I am in Victoria and saw the show last summer. Fucking great time! And thanks for playing here again!!
I saw Paul McCartney in Vancouver a few days ago and the dime dropped for me when he played(the best song} Helter Skelter. That intro{na na na na na na na na} was the first punk song!! That is the sound the Ramones used to great effect. Not to mention Johnny Ramone admitted he took the Ramones name from Paul’s pseudonym for signing into hotels. You guys have continued the sound, and it is the greatest sound for live gigs. It has the most energy and brings the most fun to a live event. The Ramones were the most fun band I ever saw and I’ve seen em all! You boys rank right up there with them.
Anyway, we were very lucky to have you guys in Victoria.
Best of luck in the future to all of you!
Hey Ho Let’s Go!
LOVED this interview! I’m not really into punk music, myself, except for the occasional tune in my ears for the sake of variety, but The Hives were awesome!
They were intelligent, charming, funny, engaging, and I loved learning more about Swedish culture from Swedes themselves.
Great job, Hardwick!
I’m a few episodes behind, just heard this one today. I cracked up when Jonah commented on Pliny and said RR Brewery is ‘just a few miles north’ = just a few north of 400 miles away. If you guys ever play the Wells Fargo Center (1600 seats), you could hoist a few pints of Pliny after the show, and visit the Snoopy museum too. Come on up, Sonoma county has a few nerds up here. FYI Carlin & Bill Maher shot HBO specials here.
