The Indoor Kids: Walking Dead and Road Tripping with Gary Whitta

While in San Francisco, Kumail and Emily met on a hotel rooftop to talk to Gary Whitta, lead writer for The Walking Dead, Episode 4. Hear him talk about the differences between writing movies and video games (he wrote The Book of Eli and the next M. Night Shyamalan movie), how you write a game that has so many different story paths, his thoughts on the importance of stories in games, and much more.   6. Speaking of narrative branches, I really enjoy the Alpha Protocol -style approach to conversations this game takes, as opposed to the more standard Mass Effect type.

    That’s just a simple introductory conversation where you arrive at the Moscow hub and try to get some information about weapons smugglers.

    Another thing about the Walking Dead that I really love is the sound design. When the storm was (literally and figuratively) brewing in episode 2, I actually took off my headphones and checked the sky outside because I wasn’t sure if the sounds were real or not.

  7. I’m sitting here waiting for XCOM to unlock on steam at midnight. I can’t remember being so pumped for a game to come out. You guys have got to play this. I’d love to hear your impressions.

I will never understand how you guys put yourselves out there on the internet to be torn apart by people who don’t understand how level one human interaction works and that internet comments will be read. Your show is wonderful. You are both wonderful. My life is more wonderful with The Indoor Kids.
