I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Shelby Wu! Holy cow, I haven’t thought of that show in AGES.
FROM THE MIXED-UP FILES OF MRS. BASIL E. FRANKWEILER had its kids living in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC…there was a weak film version best known as THE HIDEAWAYS (with Ingrid Bergman as Frankweiler), but (Ms.) E. L. Konigsburg’s novel is vastly better (the Rosie O’Donnell film of HARRIET THE SPY is a much worse adaptation…and O’Donnell v. Bergman, after all).
For that matter, if you haven’t yet, Daphne Du Maurier’s “The Birds” is much better than that movie drawn from it, too…
So many good mentions in this episode!! Specifically loved the reference to The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler — hadn’t thought of that book in years!! I also couldn’t help but laugh when I shouted out (to no one) “The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo” right before Jen said the name of the show. I’ve enjoyed every single episode so far but this one had me smiling the most, I think!
On the topic of Halloween costumes – I, for some reason, picture Janet dressed as Raggedy Ann…
Loved the Halloween talk! About four years ago I dressed up as George Michael, so I love the gender bending aspect to the holiday. The horror movie talk was also great. I saw Pet Semetary for the for time at a sleep over, and my friend had a cat, so needless to say I did not sleep well that night.
Don’t forget, WATCHER IN THE WOODS!!!!!
There’s never a wrong time to go to Montréal. Well, except Christmas because its climate is too warm to guarantee a white Xmas.
Great comments so far, friends! Renee- Pet Sematary scared the pants off me as well. Curtis, I never dressed as Raggedy Ann but one year I did dress as Wee Willy Winky. But for the life of me I can’t remember what that even entailed!!
Let me join the chorus of excitement over The Mixed-Up Files mention! Also wonderful to hear from another child of a radio dad!
Jennifer Finnigan is one of those people that I only have positive thoughts about. Sure, I’m a fan of other people who grew up in Montreal, but there’s something about the connection to a fixture of my childhood that makes me want to root for her even more (same goes with Melissa Auf der Maur).
And I have to say, aside from my family, the food the thing I miss most about Montreal. You can find poutine anywhere these days, but there’s something about a Montreal bagel that can’t be exported.
