New Trailer: “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”

After the recent announcement that Peter Jackson’s 3D, 48 frames-per-second adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit would be split into three parts instead of the originally-proposed two, anticipation over what would be included in part one, subtitled An Unexpected Journey, began to build. After all, the film’s scheduled for release this December. But fret no longer, Ringophiles (a term I’ve just made up): a new, more adventurous trailer has been released this very day. We get to see more Bilbo, more Dwarfs, more Gandalf, a bit more Gollum, as well as first appearances of Hugo Weaving as Elrond the Elf and the Seventh Doctor himself, Sylvester McCoy, as the wizard Radagast the Brown. It’s nice to return to Middle Earth after all this time. Believe it or not, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring came out 11 years ago. Oh, boy I feel old; how about you?

  • Despite needing to be up in a few hours, I stayed up till midnight for this to drop; totally worth it! It looks even better than I could’ve hoped! The spirit of the story with the scope of the world it’s set in!

  • Because I gotta (nerd’s gotta nerd):
In Tolkien, the plural of dwarf is dwarves, not dwarfs.

    You’re welcome!

PS: This second trailer makes me even more excited than the first trailer did. And I was pretty damn excited already. I think Del Toro would have done excellent work with this material, but absent him, I sure am glad Mr. Jackson opted to take it on himself.
