Hulk Smash, Ponder Meaning Of Life

Hey, do you remember the scene in The Avengers where The Hulk falls to Earth from a great height and crashes (as naked Bruce Banner) into rubble in some old warehouse to the surprise of security guard Harry Dean Stanton? Sure you do. Here, through Entertainment Weekly, is an addition to that scene, the first extra from the upcoming (September 25th) DVD-Blu-ray release. In the deleted part of the scene, the guard doesn’t just offer Mark Ruffalo some clothes, but has a chat about the meaning of life. You can see why it got cut — even at 56 seconds, it’s wordy and brings everything to a halt. And it wasn’t necessary to the plot nor Banner’s character. But Nerdist folks are nothing if not completists, so here it is.
A momentum stopper for sure, but that whole “I can do the most good where I can do the most harm” “that’s no different from anybody else” is dialog gold and I wish it’d had found a home somewhere in the mix.
As much as I love Harry Dean Stanton, deleted scenes are usually deleted for a reason.
Bruce Banner seemed to accept his “condition” after that fall scene and is a different character in the 2nd part of the movie, and I’ve felt this transition wasn’t that clear in the film. Not sure if this deleted scene would help,but I liked it. And I agree, that line is dialogue gold.
