I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Anybody know that trailer he said he keeps watch over and over? I didn’t quite catch the name of it.
When I saw Chris’ tweet, I shouted “Yes” super loud at work. I just recently got into The IT Crowd and became a fan. First John Barrowman and now Richard Ayoade. Well done sir, well done.
@Allan the movie is called The Master stars Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It’s kind of a veiled dig at L. Ron Hubbard. Looks pretty good.
Just came back from a midnight screening of The Watch! It’s great! I loved it.
The Master just looks perfect.
I like that even when I don’t connect with the guest or a particular episode, I still enjoy listening to the episode. I guess somewhere along the last couple years of listening, the podcast has become a way for me to feel at home no matter where I am, for like one hour.
Thanks.

RE: Chris’s British accent in the intro – it was a spot on impression of John Oliver actually. Not just the accent, but the cadence and everything. Keep that one Chris – it’ll come in handy someday
Sweet sauce! I was just thinking last week how Ayoade would be my dream guest for the podcast. Thanks for making it happen!
I LOVE that he spoke about the commentary track on the Gareth Marienghi’s dvd (UK version) – it has got to be one of my favorite damn things in life.
Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is one of the funniest things ever made. It never gets old, never! I wish they had enough money to make another season, or a film.
Interrobang, otherwise known as the story of the Soldier and the Hunchback.
Remember back in episode 100, Simon Pegg & Joel McHale mentioned Richard, & talked about how humble & self-effacing he was? They were spot on. Brilliant bloke though, & a very interesting episode!
That combination of ? and ! that Chris pondered over (exclamatorily) during the intro was “invented” by the head of an advertising agency in the 60s to cleanly express rhetorical questions in ads. He named it the interrobang, and although it gained traction for a few years, it hasn’t been found on a standard keyboard since keyboards were typewriters.
However, it’s possibly utilized in the logo for Probably Entertainment, a game company I co-started and shamelessly plugged by writing this comment.
And by posting this url!

Also, wonderful episode with Ayoade–Submarine’s queued up in Netflix as I type!
Shame everyone seems to be bashing The Watch. I like it a lot.
Not as much as Garth Merenghi’s Darkplace, of course.
Yes! He is so fantastic. Garth Marenghi, the Mighty Boosh, and the IT Crowd? I am here for that.
I did my best impression of Ayoade while listening by falling asleep.
(Sorry, I never make dick comments like this but I couldn’t really help it.)
Ok. So I was listening to this episode in my car. I could only hear 20-30% of what he said and had to shut it off. Was he afraid of the mic? I was able to hear Chris and I want to say Jonah. I am sure he was a great interview from what little I could hear.
Just finished listening to this episode (yes, albeit late). I am a big fan of Richard and the IT Crowd, etc. Unfortunately I found him uncomfortably self-effacing however charming.
