Before there was The Black Swan, there was this sketch from The Kids in the Hall, reprised for you today on the Nerdist Channel, in which a couple of ballerinas are pitted against each other by their teacher. “It’s the same with bowling.” Nicole may be flawed, but those eyes…. After the sketch, Kevin McDonald and Dave Foley discuss the troupe’s deployment of drag.

I am really enjoying these, grew up watching this show when Comedy Central aired them in the afternoon and it’s great to see them talking about their work.
‘necessity’? Come on. Would blacking up be a necessity if funny black people were rare? Surely if they’d really wanted women in the troupe they would have managed to get ‘em? They found this girl, and she’s pretty damn funny. Isn’t it more that drag is an obvious visual gag, and these performers wanted to perform their own material, like the Pythons?
