I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick

Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

“Katie, we’ve got a tapper…”
Great ep, guys. It’s always a fun ride listening to you riff with Mr. Hamm.
Yeah, unfortunately, there was nothing we could do. We recorded this at the Roosevelt Hotel with our mobile setup and the only table we had access to was flimsy. Every time you moved, leaned or put your hand on it, it vibrated the mic. The only solution would have been to sit completely still while just leaning our faces into the mic, which would have made for awkward conversation. Sorry! It was either this or not post it, and I thought Hamm was too great a guest not to post it.
Weirded out / thrilled at the Doug Flutie reference , nice work .
Great one guys! Just finished watching the latest bowling challenge. Was nice to have this up right after. You could say i’m on my second helping of Hamm! Zing!
It was Clancy Brown, the big guy from Highlander … Also known as Mr Krabs from Spongebob
Just watched Celebrity Bowling – “Suri, who is Jonah?” – so it’s great to see this up right after. Love Juan Jamón. I miss El Chupacabra and Hamm riffing on Comedy Death Ray.
Sunday’s episode was the best so far this season. Now that I got that out of the way; Hamm should be on more than every two years and R.I.P. Dick Clark.
Hey guys, just heard the podcast. Sorry to tell the great Mr. Hamm, but his “fake” word “florp” is real.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=florp
Funniest episode in a long while – although now I’ve become that crazy chick on the train, laughing loudly and hysterically to herself… I could not stifle my glee. Totally worth it.
Wow, awkward timing on the Dick Clark jokes! Still funny though.
For those of you seeking out the Bowling Hall of Fame, now that Don Draper does it :

Too far south to be in the Bowling Belt though.
A fantastically hilarious show! In regard to remakes of older films, call me crazy but I think Jon Hamm would be perfect for Conrad Veidt’s old role of Gwynplaine in the classic The Man Who Laughs, if ever they were to remake it.
Awesome show like always Chris! Thanks for making millions and millions of us fellow nerds laugh our collective butts off.
Hope I’m not spamming you, but I recently made a video response to your last Nerdist Podcast Live show on our youtube page. I would be honored if you checked it out and told me what you thought about it.

Thanks again for the continued amazing content and for doing a promo for our youtube channel. We can’t wait to see you again the next time you come to Michigan!
FYI, looking for the amazon.com link at the bottom of the page. Is it just me? I was going to buy something BIG.
@Cass: It’s there for me, the banner just above the podcast player, just before the comments. (It’s at the bottom of the post, not the bottom of the page) But if it’s not there for you, here’s the link:

Wet Reynolds/Pine water tower fight accompanied by sax music and vampires…. I’m on board.
Thank you Jon Hamm, Chris Hardwick & the rest of the nerdist crew! Without your podcast, I may never have stumbled upon this video. What kind of life would that be?
Jeez, Jon Hamm’s charm is way off the charts in this episode. At this level of charm he’s dangerously close to some sort of government intervention. Between the whistle mashup and the smart fart joke, the guy needs to be contained before he destroys us all!
There’s this weird noise every now and then during the episode, which I’m pretty sure it’s the mics.
It sounds like insistent but very shy farting.
It’s even more hilarious to picture you guys randomly pausing to fart, and continue talking.
I am very humored by you guys just farting up a room.
I don’t usually like fart jokes. But I’ll let this one pass.
omg… Cooper.Draper.Sterling.Pryce vs Harlem Globetrotters just made me a cackling weird happy man in public. omg. Another one of the greats, nerdcast. Thank you for the smile grenade (?).
Hilarious episode as always – thanks for the treat! Anyway, since you brought up the topic of “scatting with mostly consonants”, ever heard of the South Indian vocal tradition of konnakol? I think it comes close to what you were thinking of…
I would have listened to approx. five more minutes of Jon Hamm whistling.
Lots of mic-hand noise in this episode. Maybe it’s time to invest a tiny bit of money in a real studio? Haha. Come on guys, You can have a pro-studio for under $5,000 these days. Why make it tough to listen to!? (This is not “trolling” btw – trying to help!)
Ah – Just read chris’s comment about recording mobile and not being able to do anything about the noises. Invest in a few shock mounts for the microphones. At this point, this podcast should have all the tools available to have perfect audio. Surely you must know someone who can get you set up. Haha. The noises are enough to make me tune out, and I’m a fan.
@mike: out of almost 200 episodes, this has barely ever happened. Let’s not blow this out into “This ALWAYS happens on the podcast! Get a good set up already! Sheesh!!” Also, shock mounts don’t provide any relief if the base is sitting directly on the crappy, rickety table, which was the case here. I appreciate that you’re a fan of the show and that you want it to be perfect, but this is a REALLY rare thing. We didn’t “make” it tough to listen to–this was just the unfortunate circumstance by which we had to record this particular episode. We do the best we can every single time to keep constant free podcast goodness flowing into your ears so maybe don’t complain the minute you hear something you don’t like? I know you said you wanted to be helpful, but I think you just wanted to passive aggressively vent a little.
No worries! Thanks for listening anyway!
Can you guys do more riffing on how horrible the Kardations are? Is that how you spell their names?
Hey, Chris you should totally take your own Amish oak tables and chairs to all ‘remote’ episodes. Also, a the guests might appreciate a cappuccino machine. C’mon, you’re a pro. I’m not paying millions of dollars for this podcast to hear stuff like that.
Also, the real reason for coming to post on this episode: The Kurgan from Highlander was Clancy Brown who was in Buckaroo Bonzai with Jeff (Skoo-be-dee-doo-) Goldblum. The references on this podcast has turned on themselves like a Jon Hamm tabloid comment about an Ouroboros. I’m off to research how this connects to the Three Stooges…
I believe I saw a trailer for a serious take on Plan 9 a year or two ago. I don’t know if it’s a real movie, just a concept trailer for its own sake or a “hey, fund this” type thing.
i posted this in the Quemments section, but i wanted to post it here to make sure it went through. i have a guest suggestion for a future episode of the Nerdist Podcast. if you could get ahold of him somehow, i would love to listen to you guys sit down and chat with one of the greatest authors of all-time, STEPHEN KING! i am a HUGE fan of his, i have been for quite some time now. coming on this site and seeing a picture of him on here as a guest of this podcast would make me squeal and giggle like a little school girl.
Not sure if a link will work but I just saw a article pop up on MSNBC about Nerdist bowling with Jon Hamm, sounds like you got your self some good PR for the site.

I burst out laughing on a packed train to Jonah’s “Brain Games” reference…i constantly insert the same sing songy reference into conversation and no one but my siblings seems to get it! Thanks for validating my love of that 80s HBO program. Also, Hamm is hilarious and i love when he does podcasts!
I listened to the podcast earlier today and I caught the funny noise throughout it so I came to the site figuring it was addressed in these comments. It sucks that some people couldn’t get over noise…I’ve just been imagining that Chris, Jonah and Hamm were all a bit gassy while recording and the mic was just sensitive enough to pick up the toots. Adding another layer of funny to all the awesome riffing!
One of my fave podcasts so far…laughed so hard at the comments about the “vampire flute” and the existential Stooges. Great job, fellas!
Hamm rocks, the rest of yall suck, youre like those bing commercials, let your guest talk cause I couldnt care less about what the last word of his sentence reminded your brain of from ten years ago. That makes sense.
I was going to say, “Aww, Jon Hamm’s a gassy baby.”
I want to listen to this episode so much but I am only in the 2nd season of mad men and I am worried about spoilers….
Nice, now I’m going to have the scat-man song stuck in my head for the next two weeks.
Speaking of movies that should be remade, anyone else want to see an updated Ice Pirates movie?
Great episode! I haven’t watched any of this season of Mad Men yet but I like for shows to get backed up on Tivo so I can have a mini marathon.
I will say, however, that Jon’s comment bugged me…just because…is it really that big a deal? I mean it’s all entertainment. I can watch Jersey Shore, appreciate the dumb, mindless entertainment of it all, but also enjoy Breaking Bad and just how insanely spectacular it is on another level. Why is it a competition? I think it bugs me because Jon’s negative comments were just another in a seemingly growing one from celebrities that are anti-reality tv or Kardashian-like shows.
And the “kids/teens are wanting to emulate her”…there’s always this doom and gloom message about kids being horribly warped by media. If it’s not the Kim’s sex tap/fame, then it’s violent video games, or South Park, blah blah blah. The teens will be fine. There were dumb, lazy people before the Kardashians and there’ll be more when they’re off the air.
I am still a Jon Hamm fan btw. His skit on SNL where he was Senator Scott Brown…still cracks me up (when he’s dancing suggestively in those thought bubbles lol!).
/end rant
About the spider-man reboot. Sony has make a new flim with the Spider-Man title every 5-7 years or the flim right go back to marvel, same with fox and Xmen.
Hey Nerdist listeners I don’t know if it was on this podcast or not but recently Chris mentioned a documentary about people being watched in NYC for there 15 minutes of fame or something of that effect, just wondering what it was…thanks guys
Wow, this paragraph is fastidious, my younger sister
