I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

Great episode. One of the best you all have done. Had to keep looking out the window so everyone wouldn’t see me laughing my ass off in my office.
Mira’s stand up wasn’t so hot on the cluster but he’s quick as hell on a panel. I just listened to the 9.30 Club episode before this, and Mira’s quicker and funnier than either of the other two. This is really his forte. I take back everything bad I ever said.
I was at the show and he killed the stand up. Huge improvement from the cluster. I liked it then but he was pretty hilarious. Loved the Boulder show, ChriJoMa. Love the podcast and you guys
Glad Mira’s standup is better, look forward to hearing it on the podcast again. The only thing that occurs to me after this podcast is how strangely insecure and confrontational Plait seems. Is that because his daughters in the audience or he has bad blood with Hardwick or what? I’ve never heard a guest be as… I don’t know. On edge.
Hearing Johan be quiet for twenty minutes and then say “Yeah, Matt” cracked me up, though.
Yep, meant Jonah, not “Johan.” Anyways. Very interesting episode.
I dont need to listen to this, because i LIVED IT. But im going to anyway.
I am so excited to hear this one! It is about time that Phil jumped on the Nerdist. Tim Minchin, Adam Savage, and Neil deGrasse Tyson are among my favorite skeptics.
Where’s the Dan Harmon episode? Didnt he record one recently?
Is it me or do Phil Plait and Bill Nye sound really similar?
God, I sound like an idiot when I listen to this back again…
Lol, I just realised your older than my parents and I’m a freshman in highschool! Sorry for making you feel old…
Holy shit, thank you SO much for not cutting out the William William Shatner (awful as it was, I was in tears laughing).
Otherwise, great episode! Equal parts amusing/informative!
I was actually really impressed at how witty Phil was. He put on a great show. Kept up with the banter really well
Awesome show
Fantas (http://www.nerdist.com/2012/03/nerdist-podcast-phil-plait-live-in-boulder/comment-page-1/#comment-70359): Hardwick is my biological father and I had thirteen Red Bulls before going on stage.
Seriously though, I really don’t know what you mean. I had a great time, felt relaxed, and really enjoyed mixing it up with Matt about Apollo. Maybe the recording gives off a different vibe, but we all had a lot of fun.
I just listened to it, and am still freaking my bean over hearing my quemment actually there (yes, with the Shatner quip intact). Thanks for coming out to Boulder, guys!
I’m currently listening to the Phil Plait vs Joe Rogan Moon video on youtube. I have to give props to Phil Plait for being calm throughout the whole debate. *Hi Fives air if Phil Plait’s hands were there*
This was an awesome episode. I forgot that this was going to be a Hostful episode with guests rather than being a guest show with an audience… kinda wanted more Phil Plait stuff but the amount that is there, awesome. Haven’t laughed for that amount of time at nerd space jokes, ever
. Great job Nerdcast!
Oddly enough I was expecting more atheist stuff (since that’s most of the stuff I watch on youtube that Dr. Plait (?) is in) but I guess that only comes up when he really has to be in an opposition towards the other arguements or book releases
.
@BadAstronomer: Fair enough, I guess I was hearing something that wasn’t there, then. I’ll have to give it another listen.
I’m pretty sure you’ll find a great scientist for your Iowa City show, but you’d do best to find one in Ames (Iowa State University-where the first electronic digital Atanasoff-Berry computer was invented)! Or I suppose you could find a Capt. Kirk expert from Riverside, his future birthplace? Also this show was really funny, and I liked your guest Phil. His poor teen daughter….LOL!
It’s so awesome to hear this again. More poop jokes than I remember, but that makes it even better the second time around!
Man, you guys (including Phil Plait) are awesome. It’s refreshing to see people who are really kind to their fans. You certainly are four lovely human beings.
Hope you enjoyed the Dalek cakes! Nearly had an asthma attack from running to get them from my car (wow, that doesn’t sound nerdy at all…) but it was totally worth it. #wheeze
Here’s a little bit about the Denver airport “oddities” that the guys (and Phil) refer to in this episode: http://thechive.com/2012/03/08/something-is-rotten-in-the-denver-airport-25-photos/
Dr. Phil Rocks!!!! He was by far one of the best guests lately
A David Icke mention?! *shudders*.. Anyhoo… Great ep!
Phil sounded totally at ease. Like…really at ease. Like…at more ease than when he’s on SGU.
And this was probably the best nerdist ever, and Phil killed. I wish more nerdist guests brought it like Phil.
I’ve been listening, and a huge fan, all along. This is probably the best episode of the bunch. Everything (and everyone) that makes this show such a gem really came together–witty and “wheelhouse” guest, a titch aggressive, always kind. Thanks guys.
Hilarious episode, and Phil was an awesome guest. But I gotta ask: What got into you guys before the show? Y’all seemed extra aggressive.
Gonna risk some hate but, as i was listening i couldnt help but hear Phil Plait sounding like Jim Carrey. Had a hard time visualizing the right person. :-/
Perhaps my favorite podcast yet.
Great podcast guys! keep them up and keep them funny!
my least favorite malapropism is “CHEERSING”… arrrrrgh. I do not feel cool, calm and collective when someone says that.
YOURE BETTER THAN THAT, HARDWICK!!
There’s a duplicate of the Jack Swigert statue in Washington, DC in the Capitol Building Visitor Center. It’s part of the Congressional Statuary Hall Collection. And if you can’t tell, I used to be a tour guide there.
One of the best of the best. Thank you all, sincerely.
Thanks for the auspicious writeup. It if truth be told used to be a leisure account it. Glance complicated to far delivered agreeable from you! However, how can we communicate?
