I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

I want to listen to this podcast. I really do. Unfortunately i’m currently in a frozen state of fixation, hypnosis, and utter terror, staring at the photo above. I swear if you stare at it long enough, every so often it quickly morphs into angry-dafoe and screams “AVENGE ME!!!”.
Downloaded on my iphone, and ready for my ear holes.
My reaction when seeing it’s Willem Dafoe: Holy Shit!
Listening now.
Can this podcast get tagged as a humblebrag just for the lack of build up to it? ‘Hey guys, here’s a podcast, it’s just Willem Defoe, no biggie, so how are you all doing?’
Downloaded, commencing with the listening!
G4tv just posted that there will be a Boondock Saints Game!!!
http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/721155/boondock-saints-game-a-co-op-shooter/?cmpid=sn-120221-twitter-na-twitterfantrack
th…thank you
BJ: ahhh! a Boondock Saints video game!? Genius! I cant wait for the opening shot of the brothers with their guns at the screen towards the player…..
“And Shepherds we shall be
For Thee my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands,
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee,
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomine Patri, Et Fili, Et Spiritus Sancti.”
This…Is… Awesome.
Also, if anyone hasn’t seen Fishing With John, it’s amazingly weird and hilarious. Willem Dafoe’s episode is one of the best.
Oh the ever so subtle mispronunciation….”Melwaukee, Wesconsin”.
oooh yeaaa—I love him—now if you can just get Seth Green and Gary Oldman–my life would be complete !!
I don’t know what it is about the man, but when I saw the above picture I made a “squeeeeee” sound of joy.
My first reaction upon seeing William Dafoe’s face on the upper right corner of the page was “what the fuck!”. Of course in an amazed manner.
sweet Thanks!
Holly balls! This is amazing. I squeed so loud when he said that he had heard an episode of the podcast. Great get, guys!
I was intrigued by one of the lines in the intro to this episode where Chris said he was asked if he wanted to have Willem Dafoe on the podcast.
I don’t remember that ever coming up in previous podcasts (please correct me if I’m wrong)
Is this a new level-up for the podcast where famous, amazing people seek out Nerdist? That’s fantastic.
Chris, I give you 6 months before you’ve taken over the world with Nerdist-ness!
If I made a list of people I’d never expect to be on Nerdist, Willem Dafoe would certainly be on it. This was a pleasant surprise and a great interview.
Wait….Jonah was there right? I barely heard him speak more than a few words.
Willem Dafoe is a hell of a get, guys. Congratulations. He was awesome.
Now let’s go for the brass ring and get Bruce Campbell!
Chris…one day someone is going to wake up and see just how good you really are at these little interviews. Honestly, this was just great.
Holy shit! Nice catch, Chris! This is fabulous way to start the day.
This episode blew my mind. Willem Dafoe has quite the impressive record and I can’t imagine trying to run a podcast with him. I’d be so intimidated. He’s so brilliant.
I haven’t listened yet, but, I hope you asked him about his creepy fucking character in Auto Focus.
That was very enjoyable!
you know how sometimes actors portray strong/intense/unique/bizzare characters and you wonder about how much of that comes from the person themselves? In the case of Willem D, the jury has returned with a verdict: he’s even wackier than his characters (#this-is-a-good-thing!). The final exchange with our nerdist crew, in which he tests out some of his stand up material, is inspired, bizarre, and friggin hilarious.

If he was worried about being typecast as the bad guy, how come he never thought to change his last name to something other than Da Foe?
First time posting: Thoroughly enjoyed it! I’ve been a fan of Willem Dafoe since his young, unknown cameo in ‘The Hunger’ (1982) when he asks Susan Sarandon’s character “Hey lady, how bout it?” Also enjoyed ‘Shadow of the Vampire’ and ‘Wild At Heart’ immensely! Keep gettin’ them good guest, fellas! XD
This is so awesome. Such a great actor. I’m glad to see people taking notice of the podcast and are requesting to be on it.
And, as always, Willem Dafoe is a shithead.
Loved his ‘stand up’ piece!!
@jason CLASSIC shithead.
His eyes will haunt my nightmares.
Awesome
I hope you guys see this. Willem Dafoe has another movie coming out today through IFC called 4:44 Last Day On Earth. It’s about knowing the date and time the world will end and it looks compelling as hell.
