I Met Air Supply!!!
by Chris Hardwick on November 3, 2011
I’m on Late Night w/ Fallon tonight along w/ Kirsten Dunst and AIR SUPPLY! I love those guys. Unironically. This is my front facing camera from Jimmy’s couch while A.S. rocked the SHIT out of that studio with a The Roots-backed rendition of “Here I Am.” I sang along and air-drummed through the whole performance. I also would have loved to hear “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All (makin’ love) Out of nothing at aaaaAAAAAAAaaaaaall! AH AHH AHHHHHHHHH!!!! MAKING LOVE!!!!” but since it wasn’t a concert, that didn’t happen.
This show was a blast, as always. Didn’t meet Kirsten Dunst but she seemed nice enough. Airs tonight (technically tomorrow #pushesupglasses) at 12:35a/11:35p central.
Here’s a better pic of the Air Supply lads, Graham Russell & Russell Hitchcock:

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

LOL Awesome! Can’t wait.
Best photo editing EVER!
I’m happy that you’re happy! Go you!
Hey, when did my stepmother join Air Supply?
DVR is set!
Hehe, you’re adorable! <3
Oh, my. You are such a child of the 70′s, aren’t you?
Well, what’s a guilty pleasure if you can’t have some fun with it?
Liz: I know it looks shopped but it isn’t! This was the front facing camera and me taking the pic from the couch. My face caught the side stage lighting so that’s why it’s different than the other folks in the pic. They sounded fantastic!!!
What font is that?!?
I remember watching a Disneyland Anniversary celebration in the 80′s that Air Supply sang on… they were in the side street of Main Street. Congratulations on the release of the book!
Glad you can admit you love them unironically. I do too and get crap for it from my family for my cheesy taste in music. I am just about your age (technically you are 364 days older than me) so this music brings me back to making mix tapes by taping things off the radio. Glad you had fun. My DVR is set.
I took the same kind of picture at an Aerosmith concert once–complete with the arrows to identify/show my proximity to Steven Tyler. lulz. Great job on the show tonight, man. Good luck with your book!
Fabulous for you Big C. I was waiting for this episode.
There’s something strangely comforting about all those 1970′s & early 80′s mellow bands & artists. My singing voice is always best suited to them for some reason:
Air Supply
Little River Band
Firefall
England Dan & John Ford Coley
Seals & Crofts
Bread
Chicago
America
Stephen Bishop
Christopher Cross
etc., etc., etc.

Tee-hee, looks like Chris is photobombing himself. Is that the new thing?
Awesome! I love Air Supply unironically too. “I know just when to face the truth, and then I know just when to dream….”
So THAT’S where Jimmy keeps his notes.
He should stop using them like Ferguson does
Saw them a few years ago. Went as a “sure, wtf” goof. Turned out to be one of the most outstanding performances I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot. I defend them every chance I get.
Since I almost died of elation unwrapping The Nerdist Way from its Amazon packaging last night, I would have surely died in the same room with you and Air Supply. Unironically.
So fucking cool. Those were some good hugs you gave those guys!
great appearance. looking forward to Conan next week. planning on getting your book ASAP!
I used to rag on bands like Air Supply, Asia, etc., and the people who love them. But who was I foolin’? I eat Hall & Oates for breakfast, and hold no qualms about it–and have since mended the err of my elitist ways. (Gerry Rafferty, Michael McDonald-era Doobie Bros., Christopher Cross–all amazing too!)
Chris, everytime I see you on a show (that isn’t Craig Ferguson) your appearances seem really short. Why couldn’t you play a game with Jimmy? Kirsten Dunst? More like Kirsten DUMBst!
I’ve always like the song “Lost in Love”…………and NO, not because it in that movie “Private Lessons” (1981) staring Sylvia Kristel………although that does help.
Awww you lucky lucky man!! Awesome photos!
That is SO cool! I wish I’d seen this in time to watch. I LOVE Air Supply! (also unironically). Today was awesome because I got my “The Nerdist Way” audio CD that I’d pre-ordered!!!! I can’t wait to get it onto my iPhone and hear it (you). This is the first book I think I ever pre-ordered and without reservation.
Your podcast just rocks and I feel like I’m just hanging out with friends and and soulmates who get the same goofy stuff that I do.
HA!!! YES!!! Air Supply was my favorite band during my high school days, saw them live from the front row in the mid-80s, and how great that even today they’re proving how amazingly awesome they are!! Still, as they always seemed to get dissed, seeing the attention they’re getting so many years later and seeing how much you all love them too is EXTREMELY SATISFYING! I have new respect for you, Chris. And I say again: HA!!!! Told you so, scoffers!!!!! Rock (ballad) on, Graham and Russell!!! On a related musical note, I just want to say: RIP Dan Fogelberg. You are missed.
Haha I saw you air drumming during their performance. We were BOTH so giddy to see Air Supply. It made me even more excited to see how happy you were. Thanks for another great memory of seeing you in NYC
@Dieverdog: You can watch the whole show, or just clips, online at the Late Night website! There’s even a bonus web-exclusive performance of “Lost in Love” too!
PS: Isn’t Jimmy Fallon an awesome host!!
Is that Chris or Tin Tin?
AWESOME, you see how much fun the east coast is!!!!!!!….but did anyone else notice how you look like a small child in comparison, just sayin. But really it does show how when we love something so much it really is BIG!!!!
