Chris the podcast are amazing. I am writing from Israel and i cant say how much joy this podcast has givin me, no longer are nerds like us afraid to be notice we will one day take over the earth as planned!!!!! I cant wait for the nerdist special.unfortinatly we dont have bbc america who knew right!? But its ok im sure in all of internets glory i will find it someday. anyhow continue to make awesome podcast trust me we need them and enjoy your burrito.

Strangely, of all the interviews with comedians and what-not, this interview with Tom Green was the thing that actually made me sit down and actually write actually material for actual stand-up, actually.
I’m pretty happy about it. Maybe my subconscious was telling me “If he can do it, than I certainly can!” Not to be rude to Tom or anything, but I’ve always thought of him as a mindless fuck, and was actually pleasantly surprised by how human and cool he is. Good Show!

Always loved the podcast. Comedians, actors, artists…. it’s great to hear any creatives broadcasting without a script. Props for humanizing showbiz.
Green was so overbearingly “Green”, I lost interest almost right away. Hardwick feigned attention, but it was pretty obviously false. Hence his attentiveness to the comments thus far. Hardwick knows this episode is fake and shit. And that’s okay. You can’t hit ‘em out of the park every time. Green’s a headline guest, he’s just over and done – so what do you do? Nothing. Watch him fizzle and die on a podcast.
I really enjoyed this episode of the podcast. I didn’t expect to like it because I’ve been turned of by Tom’s previous stuff, but I like how I got to learn about other facets of him.
too much overselling his special… shame
I wasn’t initially all that excited about a Tom Green episode but I was pleasantly surprised. What was striking was how the force of Tom’s personality kind of took over the show. Chris, or occasionally Jonah, would ask a question and Tom would just roll on, going from one thing to another, yet for the most part it didn’t seem pushy or rude, he just had a lot to say. The biggest surprise though was the fact that you recorded a Tom Green episode at all. If you’d mentioned before that you were talking to him I completely forgot it, so when the new episode was downloading on Itunes and it said Tom Green I was like “whaaa?”.
I never thought he had any entertainment value at all.
The Tom Green Show was a hard sell for me on MTV. When I watched it, it was mostly in the same disbelief as I have when watching Jerry Springer. But I must give him props for his Cancer Special and his Monica Lewinsky Special. Those two were things of genius. And I’m still in disbelief that they were never released (to my knowledge) in some sort of physical format which I could own, and watch over and over again. Of course, technology has progressed since the last time I thought of those two shows, and I should probably check the interwebs for those.
Anyway, enjoyed the interview and I’m pleased to see that Tom is still doing what he does.
Fantas: I SURRRRRRRRE love to be told exactly what I’m thinking. I mean, you pretty much have zero information on what’s in my head so that qualifies you to make a claim of absolute truth! I think your comment is fake and shit. And how is he over and done? His comedy special could be great. You don’t know that, but again, let’s just make definitive statements. Don’t be a wiener. A lot of people said Chris Rock was done after SNL. I’m not saying Tom is the next Chris Rock but NEVER count people out forever. If that were the case I’d have been done in the 1900s.
Tom was a little in comedy defensive mode when he came in, but that’s not his fault. When you do as much radio appearance shit as we all do the sometimes awfulness of it makes your shields go up in any similar situation. That only lasted 5 minutes, though, and as soon as I started talking about normal things, he relaxed. I liked seeing this side of him. It was fascinating to me to find out how calculated all of his stuff was.
Also, I’m attentive to all of the podcast threads, which you would have known had you used real information instead of just what was floating around in your head.

When I looked at my latest podcast downloads and saw Tom Green on Nerdist, I honestly almost hit delete. It’s not that I don’t like Tom Green. When he was at his peak on MTV, I was a big fan. I guess I thought that I had just outgrown Tom’s brand of humor. But I figured I should at least give the show 5-10 minutes of my time before passing judgment, and man, I am so glad I did.
I guess I was expecting the same old Tom Green antics, but instead what I got, was a thoughtful and informative interview with a sincere, and experienced entertainer/comedian. I did hear some of the old Tom Green (the defensive mode Chris mentioned) at the beginning, but I think he quickly settled in, got comfortable, and pulled off a great interview. Thanks in no small part to Chris’s hosting acumen.
I will say, however, I think the Canadian knob job at the end was a bit much. I was waiting for you all to burst into song with a few verses of “O Canada”.

Chris, re: Fantas: Holy shit, haha, way to fuckin’ stick it to Mr. Internet over there. I love how people just assume that ‘well, it’s the internet!’ and just make sweeping assumptions (almost entirely negative) about a) people, and b) a person, and assume that nobody is gonna care, which ultimately makes them assume they’re correct because nobody opposes them– especially not the person they’re talking about. Kudos for that.
Seriously, there’s this overwhelming negativity that’s spreading out beyond the internet where people just assume it’s okay to be a douche. Drives me friggin’ nuts.
Who knew Tom Green could be so enlightening and have such strong political views? It would be great if we can get all guests to open up and let their hair down as Tom Green has done.

The talk with Tom Green reminded me of this old joke: “Canada could have had French culture, British government, and American know-how. Instead, we got American culture, French government, and British know-how.”
Alternately, there was the CBC Morningside contest to finish the phrase “As Canadian as ___________.” The winning entry was “As Canadian as possible under the circumstances.”
I attended Tom’s Sydney show earlier this year with friends, we were all big fans of his show when we were teens. Tom’s stand-up routine is actually quite entertaining however the part that made the show painful was his fanbase.
I have never seen a performer buckle and pander to a crowd like that before, but I can’t really blame him either. His fans were probably the worst audience I’ve ever been a part of, to the extent in which we felt ashamed to be party to their constant obstruction.
I really felt bad for the guy because his stand-up material was more thought provoking, intelligent, and honest than any of the asinine bits the audience were screaming blood for him to re-enact on stage & it was truly a disappointment that my friends & I seemed to be amongst the minority who went to the show eager to see something more than Tom rehashing lines from Freddie Got Fingered.

Whatever happened to ignoring trolls and negative comments unless there is some huge untruth in them? I’ve been reading some comment threads and I notice a ton of positive feedback and negative feedback but it seems the people with negative comments get attention from Chris whereas those who spend time writing really detailed praises get nothing.
Makes me feel a little icky…

I wish Tom had said something funny. Chris and Jonah seemed to be trying to push him into a lighter mood, but he seemed to insist on being taken seriously as a serious serious stand up comedian. Ok, I take you serious. Now lighten up!

Your discussion about getting off the beaten path and seeing things in Canada that weren’t corporate cookie cutter places, really hit home for me. While visiting the big island in Hawaii, my wife and I were having a wonderful dinner in a local restaurant that was mostly empty, while watching the tourists stand in line to get into Outback. Come on people, you’re in Hawaii and you want to eat at friggin Outback.

I had to go online to find the spelling for Brantford so I didn’t count it. I’m embarrassed that I forgot Edmonton and Saskatoon. I also kept confusing Red Deer and Moose Jaw, but the important thing is that I knew ten by heart.
Honestly not trying to troll, but it does seem like Tom was a bit of a..um…difficult guest. Not a jerk or anything, but it seems like Tom either has showbiz PTSD where he has a hard time just having a normal conversation when he senses an audience (not uncommon), or he’s just a hard person to have a normal conversation. Still enjoyed listening though.
Oddly enough, I really enjoyed all the Canada talk.
Wow, I know I’m a bit behind on this, but how pathetic is Tom Green now? I love how overbearing he is, attempting to explain why he is funny while not actually saying anything funny for an entire hour. His explanation of anything involving technology is hilarious. Yes Tom, it’s so difficult to work within the restraints of network television. Now please beg us for the 17th time to go see your live show. Tom Green, more like Tom BROWN. As in poop. Feel free to use that in your act.
