Nerdist Podcast: Big Bang Theory

Yes! The cast of the “Big Bang Theory”! All of them!!! Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch. Also on hand were EPs Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Steve Molaro. Recorded at San Diego Comic-con 2011.

This episode will be more enjoyable than a spontaneous orgasm generated by chewing off the ears of a chocolate bunny while riding a hoverboard to high five the universe’s boobs! #WhatDidIJustWrite

  1. Very bland sitcom. Not sure if I quite agree with John’s friend though regarding it being nerd blackface. Minstreling isn’t the best analogy, since it was about mimicking black folk for the enjoyment of bigoted white folk. Big Bang is just blatant pandering where they put in the minimum of effort, sculpt a little nerd statuette out of turds, polish it and try to sell it back to the geek “community”.

    The IT crowd did a similar thing but that show comes of as affectionately (if stereotypically) poking fun of socially inept geeks. The IT crowd is the funnier, more sincere, more welcoming version of Big Bang.

    And you can say that without disparaging the actors, they all do a fine job as far as I can say. My problem is with the show runners, the writers and the producers.
    Nerdist lost a lot of credibility in my eyes by letting these guys on and letting them off this easy. It seems Nerdist these days serves as a tool for Chris Hardwick to secure work in Hollywood more than anything else.

  2. Well, I enjoyed the panel and enjoy the show. How freaking funny is Melissa Rauch?! I think she needs an individual Nerdist interview stat! She also did stand up. How about that? Sounds like a win.

  4. I thought the cast was kind of weirdly low-energy, but they warmed up as it went on. I’m not a fan of the show, but I’m not a fan of any Chuck Lorre show. There are far better ensemble comedies out there–even ensembles with cartoonish characters. The nerd culture aspect of this one doesn’t give it a pass on being funny. Although I haven’t watched it since the addition of the new women to the cast. Maybe it’s gotten better: I loved Melissa Raush on “Best Week Ever.”

    I do think “Madison’s” appearance during the Q&A was hilarious. Such a kick-ass little girl already attending multiple Comic Cons.

  5. Wow. Reading these comments, it really makes a good case that perhaps alot of nerds or at least fans of Chris do not seem to like the “Big Bang Theory”. I’m not a huge fan of the show but I agree with some other comments regarding that the show is a stepping stone for more nerd-centric shows. I also believe that the EP’s need to get over themselves.If you are going to market the show to “Extraordinary people” and “people of a particular group” and NOT “Nerds” then perhaps you should tone down the comic-book loving and Star Trek jokes. They are sending off some serious mixed signals.

    This wasn’t a Nerdist podcast. This was a Big Bang Theory panel that Chris Hardwick moderated in Comic Con. It had nothing to do with Nerdist except of Hardwick having the oportunity to pass it up as an episode so we can hear it. But they didn’t have “anybody on” and went easy on them since it wasn’t the intent at all of a panel.

  7. First, I am a fan of the show…I was really into it for awhile and all…the last season wasn’t that great…

    Second, but anyway, what I really wanted to comment on was that it sounds like the panel got a little snarky with the fans asking questions. Maybe this is normal at a con (I live in Alaska where there are none) but I sort of got upset when I heard them making fun of people asking questions that have already been asked, wearing lots of buttons…I don’t know…I was sort of turned off by what I heard.

    I understand that in person it may have been different. But from what I heard, it sounded like they made fun of some people.

    Also, I think it is atrocious that they never heard of the Tardis or Doctor Who…seriously.

  8. I enjoy “Big Bang Theory,” and I enjoyed this podcast — quite a bit, actually. I’m surprised at how many negative comments have been left here. It seems like anything that gets TOO popular immediately suffers this fate, though? I thought the podcast and the panel were quite good. Also, I agree that Melissa Rauch is hilarious, and I would fully support having her as a solo guest on the Nerdist podcast, as someone else has suggested here.

  9. wow…. was that woman at the start for real? i have many jewish friends and none of them speak that way. it was kinda scary to hear hahaha. the cast and crew seem like nice enough people but it became clear to me listening that even tho ive been trying to get into “TBBT” now that its on reruns i just cant and after listienng to the panel i wont..
    its just more CBS, dumb down for middle america programing.
    i know thats not “nice” but sometimes you have to call a “spade a spade”

  10. oh yeah, and i agree with the people that are saying its not the actors, its the producers and show runners that left me feeling alil unnerved. i dunno.. just a “vibe” and their very accurate when i have them.
