Who’s the Funniest Woman on TV?

We tackled the funniest man on TV on Thursday, so now let’s talk women. The list probably needs to begin with Jane Lynch (hosting the 2011 Emmys), and then include some combo of these individuals: Tina Fey (ah, the ol’ standby), Amy Poehler, Kaitlin Olson, Ellen DeGeneres, Chelsea Handler, Alison Brie (quelle scandale ), Susie Essman, Betty White (don’t hate on Hot in Cleveland), Kristen Wiig, and yes, another from the Bridesmaids set: Melissa McCarthy, now minted as an Emmy nominee to boot. (I’d consider tossing Alyson Hannigan in here, because her Lily is pitch-perfect most of the time.)

Who you got, nerds? Bossy Pants, Sweet Dee, Lately, or someone completely different?

  • Oh man…it’s so hard to decide. I think Sweet Dee is hilarious–but I have toss in a nomination for Kristen Wiig. She’s carrying SNL, and would have fit in with some of the old, classic casts. And I’m not even the type to get all purist and critical about a show that had a better “old days.”

    So I say KRISTEN WIIG.

  • I’d have to say Amy Poehler, as I will always love her. I think Aubrey Plaza is fantastic, too, and she never seems to get enough credit. However, if this were a few years ago, I would say Jessica Walter as Lucille Bluth in Arrested Development. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a more consistently funny performance from any actor ever before or since. Pure genius.

  • I love 30 Rock and Tina Fey, but I honestly think Jane Krakowski makes me laugh way harder on that show. She is the funniest female comedy character on TV for me.
