I’m your nerd host, Chris Hardwick
Nerdist is a place where we nerds come together and share the nerdery that we find. It's also my home to various elements of the Nerdist Empire. You might recognize me from TV. You don't realize that's where you know me from, but it is. You think you went to college with me or I look like your cousin's friend, but that is not the case. At one time or another you stumbled upon me on your moving picture box in such cerebral gems as MTV's "Singled Out" and Noam Chomsky's "Shipmates." and so much more...

#hurraypants!
Awesome, BSG Dollhouse and one of my fave horrors Trick R Treat. Thanks for the Podcast.
Awesome. Also, not to be one of those nitpicky, firsties assholes (yes, I know how passive-aggressive this is) but Penikett’s first name is spelled “Tahmoh”.
Isn’t his name Tahmoh Penikett? At least the IMDB says so.
taaaaahmooooh!!! OHGOD i am so excited. LISTENING NOW. thanku chris!!!
Thanks for fixing the headline, unfortunately it’s still the wrong name in the body
.
Oh and the podcast title on iTunes and the show notes/teaser for the pdcast needs to be fixed too. Sorry for being obnoxious.
Fixed! Good catch, nerds!
OMG! *evacuate every orifice*
Looking forward to listening to this. I really liked Dollhouse… for the most part. It’s oh-so-cool that these panels can actually live outside their intended venues. Thank you internet… oh and Mr. Hardwick.
Good show they seem like generally awesome folks. I have never actually seen Dollhouse, but BSG and Buffy were awesome. Great actors.
I know it wasn’t originally supposed to be a nerdist, but I still wish Jonah was there to be an asshole (the best kind) and Matt to make offhand completely inappropriate comments. But I’m sure that child’s mother would be happy that they weren’t there.
I think I Dushku’d my pants.
Does “nerd” have a definition that is more specific than “a person with an interest?”
I’m a trolling nerd.
Can someone tell me if there are any Battlestar Gallactica spoilers? I’m only on season 3
I haven’t had the opportunity to listen, but I’m assuming it’s too much to hope Chris asks about Zach Galifianakis and his anecdotes about Tru Calling.
Oh my god! This happened!! I’m so excited!!!
I can dig it. Thanks, @nerdist!
I was waiting for this so long, I started to believe this event wasn’t recorded for the podcast. Glad it’s finally here.
This will make my day muuuuuuuch better! Thank you, @nerdist!
Wow, it only took you 4 months to post this one! Lol jk… Glad to have you in Chicago Chris, hope to see you again next year!
Sweet. I’m really digging this podcast, big fan of both Tahmoh and miss Eliza Dushku. it’s a “heart”ful podcast.
Has there been any update on Eliza’s Robert Maplethorpe movie? Patti Smith had been doing interviews for a book on Maplethorpe and didn’t mention the movie.
Excellent, as always/
thanks, Chris & Nerdist!
Chris did you get a phone number? That Tahmoh is a handsome fellow.
Great episode! I listen to all my podcasts on the iTouch/iPhone “2x” speed feature, to get through everything I want to listen to. Anyway, with that context, I had to mention that at the beginning of the episode, as I became aware that Tahmoh was sniffing, and I’m hearing everyone speak a *bit* faster than normal, an internal stand-up comedian’s monologue immediately started up about Tahmoh’s secret, unspoken cocaine problem. Then Big C acknowledged it, and my little fantasy world was shattered. But, all-in-all, it was a very entertaining episode, wuite funny, engaging, informative. I enjoy hearing actors talk about their projects and their lives. It’s something I wouldn’t have the opportunity to experience without podcasts. Thanks!
Amazing how you get an idea of how people are by the characters they play. I always thought of Eliza Dushku as cold and intimidating but she couldn’t have been nicer. I’m a much bigger fan after that podcast. Oh, and thanks again for the hard work.
The phrase “five by five” comes from radio communications and refers to the signal strength and signal clarity, respectively. Both are “measured” from 1 to 5, so a “5 by 5″ means “I read you loud and clear.”
Why yes, I am a licensed ham radio operator (N0CTB), why do you ask?
You missed a great opportunity to ask Mr Penikett what his favorite Michael McDonald song is. My money is on “Tah Mo Be There”.
Fantastic guests! I loved Dollhouse, and want to make out with Joss Whedon’s brain. Will we see him on in the near future?
Oh, I’m almost 2 month behind…
I see someone already explained this:
5-by-5 is a military term rating analog radio signals, the two numbers are signal strength and clarity in a 1 to 5 scale (worst to best).
So what Faith probably means by it is something like: perfectly good in every way. “I’m five-by-five.”
I only know this because when I watched the show with some friends nearly a decade ago we also did not know what five-by-five meant, so we googled it
This was around the time when google wasn’t that well known by the way, and BtVS had this conversation:
Willow: Have you Googled her yet?
Xander: Willow! She’s 17!
Willow: It’s a search engine. …
Tara: Five-by-five? Five what by five what?
Willow: See, that’s the thing. No-one knows.
But now 5-by-5 has it’s own wikipedia entry…
